Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
This simple text with colored photographs is too simplistic. Does anyone need a definition of a drawing? "A drawing is a picture made up of lines and other marks." In a section about "How Do People Make Drawings?" the answer is, "Drawings are made of different lines and shapes." Some drawings look real while some do not. Two girls, around seven and eight-years-old, are shown looking at a book of drawings and playing a game of feeling an object while blindfolded and then drawing it. One of the girls is also shown with a drawing of a unicorn to illustrate creativity. Pictures by famous artists are used as illustrations, but the artists are not identified. This is one title in the Read and Learn "Start with Art" series. There is a glossary, a book for further reading, two websites, and an index. Not recommended. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
