Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This part autobiography, part biography, and part catalog of Mariscal's oeuvre is made up of a wide range of two- and three-dimensional designs. Each page comes alive with Mariscal's joyful, bold, and colorful graphics, so much so that one hardly even notices the text. The book includes the history and birth of Mariscal's cheerful animal characters such as Cobi, the hairless, upright dog who went on to become the official mascot of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Also featured are Mariscal's many logos, typefaces, and corporate identity packages, e.g., the full corporate branding suite Mariscal created for H&M Barcelona. While Mariscal may be best known to everyday Americans for his cool New Yorker cover designs and his advertisement for Absolut vodka, in Spain and in the graphic design world he's a regular rock star, and if you look more closely at his art, you'll quickly discover why. VERDICT You can't not love Mariscal's style. His story and art will warm your heart. For all collections.—Jennifer Pollock, Coll. of DAAP Lib., Univ. of Cincinnati
