As an artist who's often been asked to teach others to draw, I would recommend this book in fact, I recommend the method developed by the author and outlined here, called Monart. It approaches the whole subject of drawing from a different perspective than many other books do--that is, teaching the prospective artist to see the basic elements of line or shape in every object that can be drawn. Even those who are very shy about their ability to draw can soon become confident using the explanations and exercises in this book. Adults and older children can learn straight from the text. Parents or teachers can read it and then teach younger children using the simple guidelines. Especially inspiring, even startling, are the beautiful colour illustrations of work done by students of this method, some of them kindergarten age or even younger. I especially enjoyed the sections showing how to change or alter an unsatisfactory picture (without endless erasing!) as well as the section at the end of the book on teaching special-needs students. If you're looking for a fun yet productive method of teaching art, you should definitely check this book out!
