Overview

The new millennium marks Drawn & Quarterly's tenth anniversary as a publisher of some of the best works in modern cartooning and to celebrate this milestone, D&Q has gathered together its entire roster of artists to produce fourteen new, full-color illustrations especially for this landmark calendar. D&Q artists have won numerous awards for their innovative and inimitable graphic approaches: from the New Yorker-inspired, evocative drawings of Seth and Maurice Vellekoop to the intricate, emotionally-absorbing linework of Julie Doucet and Chester Brown. The Drawn & Quarterly 2000 calendar runs for 14 months, from December 1999 to January 2001, and features full-color "endpapers" along with extensive biographical information on each contributor. So, forget about those cute, sentimental calendars featuring playful kittens and "nature" scenes that'll be cluttering up the malls come October: here's a calendar that's perfect for art lovers everywhere!

Since 1990, Drawn & Quarterly has been one of the world's leading publishers of modern comics. In the ensuing years, an impressive roster of international cartoonists have been published by this Montrealbased company. D&Q books have been translated in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and Finland and four gallery shows have been held in as many years focusing on the original artwork of D&Q cartoonists (Portugal in 1995, Holland in 1996, Los Angeles in 1998, and Helsinki, Finland in 1998). Drawn & Quarterly's tenth anniversary exhibition is now being planned for The Words & Pictures Museum in Northampton, Massachusetts in late 1999, and a massive 200-page coffee-table edition of the company's flagship eponymous magazine, featuring all-new material,is being planned for the Spring of 2000.
