Overview

Evolved Publishing presents a young adult fantasy in "Dream Warriors," a young adult fantasy by D. Robert Pease, award-winning author of the "Noah Zarc" series and "Shadow Swarm." ~~~ Joseph Colafranceschi is a fifteen-year-old, self-described geek, living in the Bronx. The second youngest of twelve sons of the former U.S. ambassador to Italy, Joey discovers that a small Egyptian statuette, given to him by his father, endows him with power to control his dreams. ~ After his brothers throw him down a manhole, Joey is drawn into a hidden society of warriors who have been battling a reincarnated Egyptian Pharaoh for over 3,000 years. In the dream world, everyone is not what they appear to be, and it's impossible to tell who to trust. As Joey slips deeper into a world of gladiator battles and clandestine missions within other people's dreams, he catches the eye of a beautiful Egyptian princess. ~ The only thing that keeps him grounded in reality is his best friend Alex, but even she may not be who he thought she was.

Meet the Author

My whole life, I’ve had a passion for hearing and reading stories, and for creating worlds of my own. As a child, I spent countless hours drawing crazy contraptions on paper, or building vast fortresses in a sand pile behind my garage. There was hardly a time I wasn’t off on some adventure in my mind, to the dismay of parents and teachers alike. So it’s no big surprise I took all that daydreaming, all that longing to really see the wonder of creation around me, and started pouring it into discovering hidden universes in my own mind.

For quite a few years I tried my hand at writing, mostly working on one, massive fantasy novel, but it wasn’t until I had kids and they became voracious readers that I found my passion. There’s no greater audience than a child. I’d rather have a simple review from a kid that says, “Awesome book!” than a five-star review in the New York Times. Of course, if anyone at the Times wants to try to prove me wrong, I’d be willing to let you.

My first published books are in the Noah Zarc series. They are, quite simply, the kinds of books my kids love to read (and to be honest, I do too.) It’s my hope that the kids in your life enjoy reading these stories as much as I did creating them, and I won’t tell on you if you like reading them, too.

I also recently released "Shadow Swarm," an epic fantasy that was a long time in the making.

This was truly an amazing read! Something that I have not read before, which is what I love :) Joey Cola as his friend Alex calls him is just an ordinary teen until realizing that he can do something absolutely unbelievable - he can become a "Dream Warrior". And when he finds out that Alex is one too, their journey takes them to new worlds whenever they "push". In their dreams they battle great warriors and if they lose they wake up, not dying in real life. But as they become more embroiled in the dream world, Joey or "Leonidas" realizes there is a superior battle going on between "Ammon" and "The Pharaoh" although he has NO idea who they are in real life. All he knows is that Cleopatra, the Pharaohs daughter in dream time, is in love with him and wants him to do her fathers bidding - and yet he also has feelings for Alex. Now he has to decide not only what side he is on in the dream world but also which lady he wants in real life. The author did an awesome job of creating the parallel worlds, and the characterization was amazing! I loved how carefree Alex could be in real life but so solemn in the dream realm. Needless to say the ending of this book took me by complete surprise! I finished it last night but am still in shock LOL :) Awesomely great read, highly recommend it! And now can't wait for the second book! ***I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review***

Joey is a genius and headed off to MIT soon leaving behind his twelve brothers, his loving mom, and his father, a man he has looked up to his whole life. At a spindly five-foot-nine, fifteen-year-old Joey is often at the end of his two older brother’s jealousy, as well as their fists. If it weren’t for his best friend Alexandria, his life would be more miserable than it is. Alex is unique and has her own defined look and a strength that appeals to Joey. Joey’s life changes when his father gives him an ancient Egyptian heirloom that can help make his dreams come true, but is told to tell nobody, not even his mom. When his first night yields him a powerful realistic dream and an older brother flies into town to tell Joey of his own life-like dream where Joey was both the destructor and savior, Joey feels his life change before his eyes. That is, once they adjust from being tossed down a manhole by his two bully brothers, where he saved by Nefitiri and taken into an entirely new world beneath the streets of New York where his life and the people of the world will be changed forever. ‘“Remember,” my brother said, “you’re not like everyone else. Something great is in store for you.”’ Author D. Robert Pease’s writing is breathtakingly beautiful. He doesn’t just write words that tell a story. He allows the words to tell a story of their own, vividly painting the world and breathing life into the characters. Nothing is too over the top to cause eye rolling and the quick fluidity of the story will have readers of all ages finding this book easy to escape into and impossible to put down. Definitely pick up a copy, you won’t regret it! *This book was provided in exchange for an honest review.*

Title: Dream Warrior - Joey Cola Series Book 1 Author: D. Robert Pease Publisher: Evolved Publishing LLC Published: 7-7-2014 ISBN: 13: 978-1-62253-415-9 E-Book ASIN: B00LLUGAP2 Pages: 232 Genre: Young Adult Tags: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Action/Adventure, Paranormal Overall Rating: Excellent Reviewed For: Author & Mother Daughter Book Reviews Reviewer: DelAnne Joseph Colafraneschi, called Joey Cola by his friends, is a fifteen year old with a genius level intelligence who is just weeks from becoming the youngest graduate of the prestigious St. John Academy and heading off to MIT. Joey is the favored son of his father's thirteen sons. Which includes Sergio and Igor who seem to delight in beating him up on a regular basis. One day after another unprovoked beating Joey comes home to the news his father was waiting in the study to talk to him. Usually that was only when his father was upset with him for some reason. Then he learns the story of his Italian great-grand father's trip to Egypt in 1912 to participate in an archeological dig. Then his father gives Joey a very special gift and instructions not to tell anyone about the gift or the story. His father tells him how everyone needs to use their talents to help others or make this world a better place. Then his world spirals out of control. The line between reality and dreams begin to blur to the point that he is not sure it still exist. When the dream world impacts reality and endangers his family Joey Cola, nerd boy must strep up as their defender. Yes, this is a book intended for young adults, but I enjoyed it so much that I immediately turned around to read it a second time. I wanted to make sure I had not missed any subtle clues Mr. Pease may have given. I didn't miss anything that might have warned me of the ending to come, but was surprised at the detail that went into building the dream world and how it works. The characters are the type that stay with you long after you turn the page and close the book. I am admitting that as a woman well into middle age I am eagerly awaiting book two in this series to be released in March of 2015. I will definitely have a note on my calendar to be on the lookout for the next gem. If you do not want to wait for March after you finish Dream Warrior, you may want check D Robert Pease's Noah Zarc Trilogy.

There is a world that lies just beyond consciousness…the world in which dreams are created. This is a world that can be controlled by our will…or can it? This fast paced story is of an exceptional boy in a dysfunctional family. His jealous older siblings often make his life miserable. He has a close relation to his mother and his best friend Alex. These are two friends he can always count on.  Joseph faces his struggles an strives to overcome them until he can leave.  His dreams become a new dimension for him. There is plenty of action with a slight touch of romance with a surprise ending. This is the beginning of a series that is sure to be a “hit” with YA everywhere. Especially perfect for 10 and older. The Characters depicted are “colorful” and most seem very real. The background scene are described in a way the reader can easily picture the various areas and situations. The Title and book cover are both very attention getting and representative of the content within. Parents need not worry about inappropriate material – there is no sexual situations, no bad language and the violence is not excessive nor graphic. My review of this book offers a Five Stars rating. *This book was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given.
