All Music Guide - Andrew Leahey
There's no shortage of live material in the Heart catalog, but it's still hard to fault a gracefully aging band for showing off its tricks. While other '70s and '80s mainstays sound withered and strained 25 years after their heyday, the Wilson sisters have taken care of themselves. Dreamboat Annie Live finds them playing their band's debut in its entirety, from the iconic rhythmic thump of "Magic Man" to the harmony-laden melodies in the title track's reprise. Often lean and tight, the music also veers into orchestrated territory with a six-piece string section (which is employed to stunning effect on "How Deep It Goes"). Often lean and tight, the music also veers into orchestrated territory with a six-piece string section (which is employed to stunning effect on "How Deep It Goes"). A handful of classic rock covers are thrown in for the encore, pairing Ann Wilson's well-preserved pipes with tracks by Led Zeppelin and the Who. Ann may not have the range to still tackle such follow-up hits as "Alone," but she's nevertheless solid on this disc, nailing the melodies with a throaty wail that many of her contemporaries have steadily worn away with the snowballing effect of alcohol, drugs, and general rock & roll hedonism. For those fans who prefer Heart's early material to the slick, hairsprayed singles of the '80s, Dreamboat Annie Live is a reminder that this band did -- and, indeed, does -- rock the boat. My Heart

Once again the beat of Heart rocks me. What an awesome night this must have been. Constantly bringing "new" ideas to the table, Ann, Nancy and the band just keep coming at you with something new and fresh to keep us rockin'!! I love this Dvd and everything about it. The different versions of songs, the Stockholm Strings, the extras. If your a Heart fan, serious or casual, I think you will thoroughly enjoy this concert performance. Buy it for yourself and invite your friends over for an evening of fun and music they all will talk about for days to come.

    Too far gone

Comparing this to other Heart live releases I wil say that although Ann, Nancy and the drummer sound great the other members of the band are lackluster and poorly skilled compared to past members. Ann and Nancy's road band just does not cut it sadly.

I watched this on DirecTV and my mouth continually agate from the fumbling Craig Bartok did on lead guitar it is most pronounced on "Magic Man". Crazy On You isn't even the whole song most of the lead work is chopped out I suppose because Bartok couldn't play it. You would think that with this important release they would get the entire band back together...well heck even their 80's lineup played better than this.
