Meet the Author

T. ALAN BROUGHTON was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and lived on the campus of Bryn Mawr College where his parents worked. Where fifteen he spent a year in Rome, then returned to attend Exeter Academy where his interest in writing was fostered by a remarkable teacher, George Bennett. He left Harvard to attend The Juilliard School of Music where he studied the piano, and finally he returned to Pennsylvania and graduated from Swarthmore College. He received an M.A. from The University of Washington in Seattle, and for two years taught at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. Since 1996 he has been teaching at The University of Vermont where he is a Professor of English and Director of The Writer's Workshop Program. He has a daughter and a son and lives in Burlington.
