Overview

What power can bruise the sky?
Two worlds are poised on the brink of a vicious war. By way of a staggering deception, Karou has taken control of the chimaera's rebellion and is intent on steering its course away from dead-end vengeance. The future rests on her.
When the brutal angel emperor brings his army to the human world, Karou and Akiva are finally reunited--not in love, but in tentative alliance against their common enemy. It is a twisted version of their long-ago dream, and they begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people. And, perhaps, for themselves.
But with even bigger threats on the horizon, are Karou and Akiva strong enough to stand among the gods and monsters?
The New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke&Bone trilogy comes to a stunning conclusion as--from the streets of Rome to the caves of the Kirin and beyond--humans, chimaera, and seraphim strive, love, and die in an epic theater that transcends good and evil, right and wrong, friend and enemy.

    Enchanting and absorbing!

Best series I have read in years! As an English teacher, I often read YA to recommend to my students. This is so well written I fell in love with it myself. It combines lyrical, gorgeous writing with intricate plotting and superb world building. Just read it yourself and you will love it, too!

    So Very Satisfying

I love love love this trilogy. For a long time I never opened this 3rd book after purchasing it because I was afraid to be disappointed. That was silly of me. I couldn't put it down. I love the prose and lyric quality. I loved how everything seemed to be resolved while at the same time leaving so much rich material that will make this story live on in my mind. The author can easily write more on this universe. Or she can leave it as is and I will still be satisfied.

Though I will remain hopeful! I will keep an eye out for anything else from Laini Taylor, that's for sure!

Each book in this series is better the next! WIth that said, I loved book 1, Daughter of Smoke and Bone. A breath-catching journey of love, betrayal and a remarkable coming of age. Book 2, Days of Blood and Starlight took me on a entirely new journey -- page turning and nail biting! But this one WOW! Didn't see it coming!
I want to meet these characters...see this world! (I never say that, so "Thank you" for this GREAT series)

    more from this reviewer

This series is one of my favorite reads ever. I didn't know how

This series is one of my favorite reads ever. I didn't know how I was going to feel after finishing Dreams of Gods and Monsters. I have been with these characters for years and I knew I was going to be sad because I would have to say goodbye to them. But after reading the last page I felt sad but elated at the same time. My characters finally got to where they were supposed to be. I didn't envision the ending quite like Taylor wrote it. BUT that doesn't mean it wasn't perfect. It was. And I'm happy with what she gave us.

After reading the first book in the series, I was all about Karou and Akiva. I thought that their love story was the main plot of the book. But after finishing book 2 and 3 I realized how wrong I was. This story is about so much more than these characters finally getting their happy ending. This is about saving worlds, people and to achieve this you have to look at the big picture and sometimes sacrifice happiness. I found myself getting annoyed at Karou and Akiva. The moments where they would almost touch but didn't because of x reason made me not like them that much. I know, that's a horrible thing to say. I wanted to know what was going to happen with everything else except them. I still love them, though. I just needed a little break from them.

In this installment, there are new characters introduced, which was kind of weird because one character in particular got a lot of pages. She was basically a main character. I didn't mind, but I don't know if it was really necessary. Unless Taylor is planning on writing a spinoff with this character as the main character. I would totally read that series.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters was a worthy end to an amazing series. I know I said Karou and Akiva were getting on my nerves, but they were still awesome. All the characters were amazing, even the bad ones. With that said, I'm a forever fan of Laini Taylor.

3.5 Stars Plot: Dreams of Gods and Monsters was one of my most

    3.5 Stars

Plot: Dreams of Gods and Monsters was one of my most anticipated novels, I couldn't wait to see how Laini Taylor wrapped up her masterpiece. I started the book in April, and I finished it in August. It took me a while to get into this one because of the numerous storylines that seemed to be completely independent of Karou and Akiva, but tied into the story towards the end. Taylor's writing is still beautiful but I felt like a lot (too many) things were happening in this novel, and at the end of novel I found myself wondering if anything actually happened.

Characters: Karou and the gang are still lovable and know when to deliver a good laugh.I feel like Taylor's strength (besides writing of course) is knowing when to break the tension. I still adore Mik and Zuzana and was happy to see how their story progressed. I don't know if Akiva and Karou's love story left me feeling satisfied, and I'll leave it at that.

Setting: The final installment takes place on Earth, Lormandi, and Eretz. The world was still very well developed but I think I was suffering from too much information to keep my characters and places straight.

Short N Sweet: Dreams of Gods and Monsters is a lovely book with the characters you know and love from the previous novels. Not the strongest ending to a great series, but still a good read.

An amazing conclusion to a fantastic series. Taylor's gift with words and imagery bring this world and these characters to such vivid life. The story progresses at such an exhilarating pace--there is rarely a good place to put the book down (say, when I have to go make dinner ha!)! This is such a well-told story of love, pain, hope, and forgiveness. The characters are rich, and even when there is a seemingly 180 change to their behavior/beliefs, Taylor writes in such a way as to be completely believable and natural. Even though this is YA, the story is so rich and never resorts to giddiness or melodrama. Definitely my all-time favorite series--the kind that saddens you when it is finished, and sticks with you long after you put the book down. I have already re-read the series a couple times (I have probably re-read Smoke and Bone a dozen times), and will continue to do so! I hope Lainie Taylor writes books for the rest of her life (and mine)!

    Best book ever

It is not everyday that one comes across such amazing work. I am so in love with this series. I want blue hair. I have wanted blue hair with each of the 3 books and I’m not sure what it is about Laini Taylor and her whimsical, complete and enchanting writing but it just gets better. I feel so insanely lucky that just two weeks ago I got to (finally) meet her in person.

“A Butterfly in a Bottle” was my favorite chapter.
Ziri was adorable and Liraz became a favorite in this book.

Seriously, the sentence following this one, “Ziri could, of course, not understand what they said, but the note of victory was plain, as was the pure, delirious joy.” Not going to put the sentence because it will spoil it for anyone who reads this! But it is on page 548.

Other favorite line: “Oh my god! All the mountains look the same!”
I couldn’t have pictured this more clearly and I loved it.

Overall I need a new word for favorite.
So... even though Ziri, Liraz, Mik, and Zuzana made up my favorite scenes, it really can not compare to the full love of the completeness of this book (Karou and Akiva are so adorable)! I’m sad that it is over, but right now I’m all crazily in the world created by Laini Taylor and I just want it to last and last and last.
