"...Truly an excellent book..." (Beginners Books, September 2002)

The Barnes & Noble Review
The world's most comprehensive Dreamweaver book is now richer and deeper than ever, with extensive practical guidance on making the most of Dreamweaver 4's enhancements for layout, coding, team development, and interactivity.

Joe Lowery's Dreamweaver 4 Bible is now nearly 1,200 pages long. The book's first half serves as a soup-to-nuts primer on the features web designers will use every day. You'll find chapter-length coverage of working with text; importing and creating images; using links; setting up lists; making the most of tables; creating effective forms; and more. Here, Lowery introduces you to many of Dreamweaver's most powerful tools and shortcuts, including the Site Window and Quick Tag Editor.

In the second half of the book, you'll stretch Dreamweaver towards its limits. Lowery takes you beyond HTML, showing how to insert CGI programs; how to embed plug-ins, ActiveX controls, applets, and scripts; and how to take advantage of Dreamweaver's new prefab Flash buttons and text (you needn't own or understand Flash).

There's a full section on cascading style sheets and DHTML, including detailed chapters on layers and positioning, and another on timelines. There are also brief chapters on using Dreamweaver with XML and accommodating active content (such as ASP or ColdFusion pages); we'll bet these get expanded in the next edition, especially now that Macromedia owns ColdFusion.

Finally, there are nearly 100 pages of coverage of Dreamweaver 4's improved web site management and workflow tools. If you're using Dreamweaver 4, you owe yourself to understand these tools -- they'll save you time and money, and make you far more competitive (definitely a good thing, nowadays).

If you haven't upgraded to Dreamweaver 4 (or you're thinking of migrating from another tool), you'll find a trial version on CD-ROM, along with trial versions of Fireworks and Flash. Just another way in which Joe Lowery's close relationship with Macromedia and its user community pays off. (Bill Camarda)
