Meet the Author

Kara Louise grew up in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles. She is the middle of three sisters, all of whom lean to the creative arts - singing, art, and writing (each has her own expertise!). She and her husband and son moved to Kansas in 1991. When she arrived, she felt like she was on a nice, long, relaxing vacation. It was a far cry from the fast paced life-style in LA -- and she loved it. She and her husband currently live out in the country on 10 acres and are entertained by a dog, 6 cats, 3 horses, and 2 goats. She works in publications at her church where her husband is one of the pastors. She began writing in 2000, first, with an inspired story from her geneology that she was researching. But that took a back seat when she discovered the writings of Jane Austen, in particular, her novel "Pride and Prejudice." She began writing stories to answer the "what happened next" and the "what ifs" in Elizabeth's and Darcy's story. She has written 6 novels based on "Pride and Prejudice," but one of these days she is determined to finish that novel based on her geneology, which started it all. Her son is now married and lives in St. Louis.

I like the story but the programming onto the Nook is killing me

I like the story but the programming onto the Nook is killing me. There are many functions that I can't do and the Nook freezes up frequently. It is torture!!!!!

    Drive and Determination

Modern day Pride & Prejudice!...Kara Louise is a dynamic author of "what if's" on the P & P...I have them all!...and they are excellent! She knows how to tell a story and keep the reader's interest peaked! When I purchased this book, I was skeptical whether I would like it or not, as I really didn't want to leave the Regency period of England and come to America in present day...but I did, and, this is an excellent read, not sure if I can give it a five star rating like I can her other books that are P & P spinoff "what ifs", but definitely a 4 to 4 1/2 star rating!

    Story good

The programing was awful for the nook. I have never had this problem with a book before but it kept freezing and I would have to shut the whole thing down. I finally figured out that if I left the internet connection on while reading it would work better, then it only froze occasionally.

The book was good but it took quite a while for me not to be disgusted with the main female character. Sometimes the author makes them so unreasonable that I don't understand why anyone would be attracted to them let alone keep fighting to gain their attention. The ending was good though.

    Well done...

I am normally leary of "modern" takes on P&P but this one is clever, sad, and heartwarming all in one.

    Must Read Modern!

I love modern retellings of Pride and Prejudice. While there are some differences in events between Louise's novel and Austen's it does not take away from the novel. I seriously could not put down this book and read it in a day! Louise's spin on events is creative and captivating. From William's ingenious way of handling Elyssa's anger towards him to his oh-so-romantic proposal the reader is taken in and events seem to come full circle. One thing I love is when an author takes events at the beginning of the book and they are referenced or mirrored with events towards the end. Louise is great at this in all of her novels I have read thus far. The emotions I felt while reading Drive and Determination went right along with what the characters'. There were times I teared up, became exasperated, laughed, and swooned. Louise is also remarkable at creating sexual tension and romance between her two main characters all while keeping on their clothes and not at all indecent. This entire book was a delight! You really must read this book, especially if you loved Darcy's Voyage like so many others have!
