Overview

Drive-Thru bands can be counted on for energetic, earnest, emo-pop. The 11 bands on this label sampler all share a similar sound: loud processed guitars, winsomely yearning vocals, loud/soft dynamics, and the kind of lyrics that will have the kids singing along joyously. (See the previously unreleased live version of the Starting Line's "Best of Me" for proof.) The only thing they lack is originality, but what good is that anyway? The songs here are a mix of tracks taken from Drive-Thru releases and rarities. Along with the Starting Line track, there are unreleased songs by Senses Fail ("Bite to Break Skin"), Something Corporate ("Down"), and New Found Glory (an acoustic "Head On Collision"). The rest of the songs range from the pop-punk of Allister to the pop-punk of Home Grown to the pop-punk of Hidden in Plain View. Not that there is anything wrong with solid pop-punk. In fact, the one song that deviates from the norm is the worst song here: Something Corporate is an unholy mix of Billy Joel and Jimmy Eat World and should have their recording contract torn up and the pieces scattered to the four winds immediately. So, in summation, if you like pop-punk or emo-punk or corporate emo-pop-punk -- heck, if you like one band on Drive-Thru -- you will find plenty to like on this likeable collection.
