Overview

Robyn can’t help but notice the handsome new guy at her school. She ignores, however, the arrival of another being at Brookfield Central High School—a demon assigned to destroy her…

Robyn loves her friends, enjoys her youth group, and looks forward to meeting cute Caleb Montague. But when a caustic news reporter challenges her school’s prayer team, Robyn must choose: defend their right to meet on campus and pray for whomever they wish or back down at the principal’s request.

Now she must learn what God wants her to do. And she had better learn fast, because there’s a supernatural enemy in town whose sole mission is to stop her—no matter the cost.

Editorial Reviews

Anne Mateer
In the tradition of This Present Darkness and The Screwtape Letters, Driven pulls back the veil between worlds and reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against Satan and his minions. But the journey of Robyn and her friends against both physical and spiritual enemies also illustrates the more exciting truth: that ultimate victory rests with our God.
Stephanie Morrill
Shellie Neumeier does an excellent job portraying the dramas of everyday high school life through the lens of the spiritual world. An insightful, unique debut!

    A Teen Must Read

Driven is an emotional roller-coaster. It's realistic characters, angels and demons have you riveted from the first sentence to the last. It's a book you'll read over and over and crave for a sequel.

    A Riveting Read

Driven is a breathtaking book of tension, intrigue, and heartwarming emotion. From the moment I began to read until the very last word, I couldn't put it aside. It held me enthralled!

    more from this reviewer

    Good book!

When a reporter harasses a member of Robyn¿s prayer team, Robyn speaks up¿and makes a terrible enemy. Not the reporter, though. A demon, sent by his master to stop Robin¿s prayer group at all costs. Robyn knows nothing of this, of course. She goes about her regular routine and agrees to appear on the news, to have a second interview with the reporter who is offended by prayer. But Robyn and her friends are now under demonic attack, and Robyn must figure out what God wants her to do.

Good book! The way the demons and angels were characters reminded me of Frank Peretti¿s This Present Darkness. All the characters were true to life and engaging. I found the idea of the spiritual attack interesting to ponder. I hope that there will be a second book soon. Recommended for teens.

    Good Read!

Awesome book about a high school prayer group caught up in a spiritual battle. What really hooked me was a question in the first chapter. "Did you ask permission from those you pray for, before you invaded their religious beliefs?" Wow. I had never considered whether or not someone would think that their religious rights might be invaded by a person praying for them. Would I be offended by a non-Christian approaching their god on my behalf?

I enjoyed all the twists and turns throughout the book. All the characters came to life and I hope to meet up with them again in the future. There was a romantic thread in the story, which made me happy, but the main plot wasn't romantic, which also made me happy ;-) I'm recommending this book to everyone I know who reads.

    Obedience to whom???

I recommend this book for older teens due to some of the issues in the book. It is so striking the way Ms Neumeier illustrates the contrast between the demon world and the christian life! Obedience due to fear, fear of failure, fear of pain, fear of diminishing power and jealousy and malevolence of the demon world are vivid. The teenagers struggle, fai, grow and change as they obey or disobey God and realize even more the need for their Father's love. A powerful book and great in our culture of chasing vampires -- it brings us back to reality - that we are efighting a fight that is not of this world.

    Highly engaging

It's not that often I discover a novel when once started it's difficult to put down-but Driven is just that kind of book. While geared for the young adult audience, it's highly engaging for the grownup crowd, as well. I loved it! It was easy to connect with the characters, especially Robyn, from the start. I enjoyed experiencing this teenager's journey so much that I even cheered for her on the sidelines. The earthly conflicts presented in the story were realistic. At the same time, my mind opened to the unseen spiritual battle the Bible tells us about, especially pertaining to demonic influences and possession. Well-crafted, Driven is a bold, thrilling read, and an esteemed debut that I didn't want to end. I highly recommend it.

I'll be giving this to my teenage sister!

Driven, Shellie Nuemeier's debut novel, is one that you'll want to pass on to your teenager. The pace is fast, the writing gripping, and the drama of being a teenager is given a new, spiritual, perspective.

Robyn is a typical teenage Christian girl. She goes to youth group, has a close knit group of friends from youth group, and is crushing on two of the hottest boys at her high school. Whether she knows it or not, Robyn is the heart and soul of her prayer team. She's the girl that everyone turns to even when she's facing fears herself. When Robyn is targeted by a hostile reporter for the simple act of prayer, she steps up to the plate and grows even more serious about her walk with God. The battle for her heart, and soul, is warred by Caleb and Taylor, the two boys from her school, and two demons who have been given orders to do whatever it takes to destroy her.

Michale, Robyn's youth pastor, warns her early on that the people she loves might be in danger if she's been targeted for spiritual warfare. He was right on. The rag-tag prayer team goes through the wringer, with four of them ending up in the hospital before the book is over.

Nuemeier's handles the tough issue of spiritual warfare in a believable way. The scenes are never hokey - she deftly pulls back the glossy layer of high school life and reveals the forces behind the drama. It's reminiscent of some of Frank Peretti's works. I'm excited for the rest of the series - and to pass this book on to my sister's who are in high school.

    A Must Have Read!

Started reading this book and it gave me chills from the get-go! Full of suspense, fictional deamons that keep you rivoted through out the book. Yet, a sweet side that makes you root for the good guys. Love it!
