Barnes & Noble - David Sprague
With comparatively little fanfare, this l'il ol' band from Northern California emerged as one of the more surprising success stories of 1999 -- rising to platinum status with a debut album that split the difference between Dave Matthews-esque intricacy and Black Crowes-styled choogle. This much-anticipated follow-up adheres to a similar formula, albeit with encouraging signs of evolution, as evidenced by the title track, a dramatically soaring number that boasts a string arrangement by Paul Buckmaster, who sculpted the ambience of David Bowie's "Space Oddity." That's not to say that the quintet has lost sight of simpler pleasures: "She's on Fire" romps along on a breezy melody that recalls the heyday of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers or the band's own chart hit "Meet Virginia". Likewise, "I Wish You Would" asserts itself with a lively, power-chord-driven melody that contrasts well with Train's usual array of acoustic instrumentation -- a bevy of which is unholstered on bucolic tunes such as "Let It Roll" and "Mississippi." Frontman Pat Monahan may not be the most original songwriter on the planet, but he does have a knack for capturing small pleasures and pains -- often, as in "Hopeless," in the same breath -- in a manner that's easy to connect with. And that, as much as anything, is what keeps Jupiter grounded right here on earth.

    I didn't care for this

I heard "Drops of Jupiter" on the radio, so I bought this. The other songs were just average to say the least. I only liked "Drops of Jupiter." That's what the one star is for. Play the music samples on your computer before you spend your money.

    Drops of Jupiter

This is a great song. I find no real proof of it having been an intent of an imitation. I believe it to be unique and a joy to listen to. The lyrics are truly interesting. For once, you can enjoy a song's lyrics, not only its music.

    Great CD!!! : D

This is just one of the CD's that you can listent to every song without skipping a track or two. I recomend buying this cd if you already haven't. Just listening to the 30 second pieces make me want to go listen to the cd itself. My favorites inclued "Drops of Jupitor" of course, "Helpless", "Let it Roll", and "Mississippi" most of all.

One of the best CDs I own!

I don't think there is anybody in the universe who wouldn't like this CD, o.k. well maybe a few people. Anyway, I saw their concert at the Utah Olympics on TV and I knew I had to get there CD. I would like to get there first one now. I don't care if you listen to rock pop or country, you will still like this band.

    AWESOME

Train's Drops Of Jupiter is by far the best cd I've ever purchased. One of those cd's where you can listen to all the way through and enjoy every song. On top of the great music and Pat Monahan's unbelievable voice, the cd also contains multi-media. Definately a must have!

    Another Hit for Train!

Drops of Jupiter is another Train hit! With a title track like Drops of Jupiter, it's no wonder the band is walking off with award after award! Other songs on the album like ''She's on Fire'' and ''Let it Roll'' will most definitely keep Train on the road to the success they so deserve. This album is a definite must buy for anyone that likes well written music!

    Soft & Sweet

Wow. Need I say more? I love this CD. Nothing compares to it. Train is that something you can fall asleep to, or when you are having a bad day, just put the head-phones on and relax. I meditate to ''Mississippi.'' It is so, incredibly good!

    Great Album

Drops of Jupiter is a great album full of wonderful songs. All the people I have talked to about the album love it. However, I believe it is one notch lower than their last album. I love the Drops of Jupiter song; it always puts me in a great mood. I encourage everyone to go out and buy it.

Top notch, top drawer, top shelf...buy it!

This is a great disc...what more can I say!? Every song is solid! A little bit of southern twang ala Black Crowes....mixed with some haunting melodies & solid song writing. You won't be disappointed with this one! Honest!

    A very different Train

Drops Of Jupiter is a good cd, but it is not nearly as good as Train's first cd. A key element missing on this new alblum is the simple and great guitar riffs of the first debut cd. It seems that someone must have told Train that they needed to play different instruments. I also have a pretty good feeling that this alblum was somewhat of a rush job. You will swear that nearly every song sounds similar to every other song. My favorite songs on the Drops of Jupiter cd include the title track as well as ''Hopeless'' and ''I wish you would''
