From The CriticsReviewer: Thomas Jacobsen, PharmD, MS, RPh, FASCP (ViroPharma Incorporated)
Description: This is the 13th edition of a comprehensive compendium of drug monographs and useful charts.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide practitioners and students the most comprehensive and up-to-date drug information available in a relatively portable format.
Audience: This book will benefit students or healthcare professionals who need quick access to drug information. The editors are experienced professionals in both academia and industry.
Features: This is an alphabetical listing by generic name of drug monographs and a set of useful appendixes. The appendixes contain numerous useful charts as well as therapy recommendations and treatments. Of particular use are the charts on comparative drugs and drug interactions. If a generic name of a particular drug is not known, the reader can easily look up the brand name alphabetically and will then be directed to the generic drug.
Assessment: Because this is not the pocket version of the Drug Information Handbook, it is too large for one to carry easily. It would however, be a useful reference in the pharmacy, nurses' station, or clinic. It should be noted that drug information is constantly evolving and readers should make their clinical decisions regarding drug therapy based on independent judgment and current medical practice.
