Dub Side of the Moon

All Music Guide - Rick Anderson
It was one of those really stupid ideas that we can all be grateful someone had the guts to follow through with. Yes, it's a reggae version of the Pink Floyd classic Dark Side of the Moon, every track drastically reworked and presented in the same order as on the original album. And yes, it works far, far better than you'd have any right to expect. The artists vary from the relatively obscure (Kirsty Rock, Dollarman) to the big-time (Corey Harris, Frankie Paul, the Meditations) and the musical styles range from roots to dancehall to jungle. Every track works well, but highlights include a very fine (and uncredited) jungle mix of "On the Run" and the great singer-deejay ...

Every track works well, but highlights include a very fine (and uncredited) jungle mix of "On the Run" and the great singer-deejay combo track "Time," on which Corey Harris' chesty baritone singing voice is nicely counterbalanced by Ranking Joe's speed-rap. There are several bonus dub mixes tacked onto the end of the program, and while none of them is revelatory they don't detract from the proceedings, either. At the end you realize that you were wrong to even think this was a dumb idea to begin with -- dub‘s psychedelic mysticism is a perfectly good match for Pink Floyd's mannered weirdness. Highly recommended.
Entertainment Weekly
Call it a stoner's harmonic convergence. Rastas Frankie Paul, Ranking Joe and others deliver the space rock classic with more vocal finesse than anyone in Floyd managed. Grade: B+

It would be easy to botch a project like this, given the virtually iconic nature of the material, but The Easy Star All Stars did a superb ... "Time" has the sound of a bona fide reggae hit.

    Excellent

An excellent job done covering one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Definately worth getting if you like Pink Floyd and reggae. Who would have thought they'd mix together so well?

    Awesome

Stoners delite, or straight edge hit. Listening to this CD I don't think they could have caputured it more perfectly. I'm a Pink Floyd fan, and an avid reggae fan, but suppose I wasn't, I still don't think I would be able to hold myself back from this.

Don't Be Dubbed by This Off-Pinkish

I'd not give any star if B&N allows. If you call this Pink Floyd, than the real Pink Floyd would be red. I am surprised that the international copy right of The Original Dark Side of the Moon is so openly violated.

Quality work with deep respect given to the original and the dub studio sound

This is one tight album. It's so true to the original electronic mood music of the original, it's a perfect remake. Groove Armada aren't pioneers; they are just carrying the torch. But of course, that's not what it's about. Dub is what we came here for. And dub is what we get. When the rhythm calls for it and with full effect. You like the Lee Perry sound of the 70's? Jacob Miller? You get it. This album stands on its own as strictly roots. But if you are all about the 70's psychedelic tunes and Pink Floyd are your boys, get it anyway! The feeling is still there! And you can kick back and relish that a whole new generation will feel the vibe...
