Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverley Fahey
Twelve highlights of the city of Dublin are featured in this accordion-folded, pop-up novelty encased in a hard cover sleeve. Among the historic landmarks on this mini tour are the Gaiety Theatre, Ha'Penny Bridge, Dublin Castle, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and the General Post Office. In the very brief description that accompanies each site, readers learn that Eason Bookshop has been in business for 125 years, Trinity College was founded in 1592 and is home to the Book of Kels, the General Post office was the operations center of the 1916 uprising and Phoenix Park is one of the largest walled city parks in Europe and home of the Dublin Zoo. Hopefully these tidbits will whet the interest of readers to explore and discover more about the city of Dublin. The watercolor illustrations accurately portray the buildings and monuments and small endpaper maps gives locations via major intersections. The CIP page features the statue of Molly Malone and the words to the first verse of the well-known song. For a child making his/her first trip to Ireland this would be an ideal pocket guide. It would also make a nice hands-on addition to a student's report on Ireland. Reviewer: Beverley Fahey
