Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This is a comprehensive and extensive review of the definition, pathogenesis, serological/clinical manifestations, and current management guidelines of these syndromes. Chapters are organized well, for example, the clinical manifestations section is divided by organ system. Also helpful is the separate chapter on pregnancy in women with SLE, an issue I deal with on a regular basis. This is a thorough reference on lupus erythematosus, covering every aspect of this heterogeneous systemic autoimmune disease. "

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Maria Gonzalez-Mayda, M.D.(Washington University Medical Center)
Description: The concept for this book originated in 1966 when Edmund Dubois and colleagues took on the task of describing all there was to know about lupus erythematosus at that time. Over its eight editions since then, it has evolved into a very comprehensive book presenting state-of-the-art information from experts in the field on lupus erythematosus and related syndromes, such as Sjogren's syndrome and antiphospholipid syndrome.
Purpose: This edition is necessary to detail the current knowledge about its pathogenesis, its myriad of clinical manifestations, and latest management guidelines. The previous edition was published in 2007.
Audience: The audience includes residents, rheumatology fellows-in-training, rheumatologists, and all other healthcare providers who take care of patients with lupus erythematosus and related syndromes, such as nephrologists, dermatologists, etc.
Features: This is a comprehensive and extensive review of the definition, pathogenesis, serological/clinical manifestations, and current management guidelines of these syndromes. Chapters are organized well, for example, the clinical manifestations section is divided by organ system. Also helpful is the separate chapter on pregnancy in women with SLE, an issue I deal with on a regular basis.
Assessment: This is a thorough reference on lupus erythematosus, covering every aspect of this heterogeneous systemic autoimmune disease. New editions will continue to be necessary as we learn more about it and its related disorders.
