Duckie and Skye's New Gig: Our Third Flight
One day, our avian friends, Duckie and Skye, idled quietly on Barnegat Bay. Then suddenly, Blues Baritone, a blue heron, and the conductor of the Avian Wildlife Chorus invited Duckie and Skye to sing a duet at Sandy Hook Lighthouse to welcome the arrival of the piping plovers from Florida. Duckie and Skye gladly accepted the offer but realized they needed to practice immediately.
The following day, our avian friends enjoyed a hearty breakfast that helped fuel their long journey. Finally, everyone took off flawlessly into the South Jersey Sky.
Meanwhile, a community of piping plovers arrived at Sand Hook Lighthouse. They settled on the beach and enjoyed the gentle waves. Theodore, the youngest of his family, fell in love with the Jersey Shore and wanted to stay forever. However, his dad said this was just a short visit.
Later that afternoon, the Avian Wildlife Chorus assembled on the beach near the piping plovers. Blues Baritone introduced the Avian Wildlife Chorus to the piping plovers. Then, the chorus performed flawlessly and received a standing ovation.
After the performance, Theodore auditioned for the chorus and was accepted. He said goodbye to his family and prepared for the next concert at Liberty Island.

About the Author

Donna Mitchelson began her art career as a young child. She looked forward to her Saturday art classes. As a middle school student, Donna designed and illustrated a poster for a school play. Next, she illustrated her first book for the Girl Scouts as a high school student. Finally, Donna continued her art studies in college and graduate school.

In the fall of 2022, the Forest Hill Elementary School in Camden, New Jersey, invited Donna to conduct a book illustration process. It was successful, and Donna was inspired to write and illustrate “Duckie and Skye’s Exploration and Duckie and Skye’s Musical Debut.” In middle school, Donna was an alto singer in the school chorus. So she auditioned for and was accepted as an alto in the Queens Boro-wide Chorus in New York City. Therefore, Donna wrote her sequel, “Duckie and Skye’s Musical Debut,” based on her terrific time at the Queens Boro-wide Chorus.
