Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Elizabeth Young
Parents will not buy this book. It is too disgusting and could be unsanitary. Aunts and uncles will not buy this book because it asks weird questions, such as: Are you more like SpongeBob SquarePants or Patrick Star? Librarians will not purchase this book because it tells you to step on the pages, spit on it, put chewed gum in it, smash food between its pages and other activities that are not acceptable in any library and will make librarians run screaming through the stacks. So who will buy this book? Pre-adolescent boys and their friends, that's who! Geared for the pre-teen male, this is more of an activity book than a book to read. In the back of the book are "signs" to put up in a locker, bathroom, bedroom, or as a travel advisory for aliens and Bigfoot—another reason responsible adults will not buy this book! While there is no plot, no story, and no deep thinking involved, it will keep boys entertained for a fair amount of time. If they are with friends enjoying collaboratively—well, all the better. Another Hit for the Boys!

I purchased Dude! last weekend after watching my 8- and 10-year old boys have an absolute blast with the other "Dude" book, the "Dude Diary" which I gave them each for Christmas. Like it's predecessor, Dude! is a unique, rare, fun, interactive book that my kids enjoy diving into and then comparing answers and thoughts with each other and their friends. I remember the fun I had filling out interactive books as a kid, but, until the Dude series, hadn't found anything comparable for boys. Butterflies, flowers, hearts... NO WAY! The Dude! book has what catches boys' attention: superheroes, monsters, cars, smells and goo. If you're the mother, grandmother, aunt or sister of an elementary/middle school aged boy, you know what I'm talking about, and I assure you the boy in your life will enjoy this book!

    Dude

My 10 year old son, who has not always been a fan of reading, has not put down this book. He laughs and wants to share what he has read with the family. He rrcommends this to boys that just want to relax and read something funny!
