Duetsby Barbra Streisand
For a vocalist who has never been shy about asserting her ego, Barbra Streisand has been surprisingly open to sharing the microphone with other top-notch singers. In fact, nearly all of her albums from the past 20 years have included a featured meeting with a guest vocalist. Duets collects many of the great one-on-one gems from throughout Streisand’s five-decade-plus recording career. It’s quite an impressive guest list, including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Neil Diamond, Johnny Mathis, Bryan Adams, and Celine Dion. The competitive edge actually brings out the diva’s best behavior; she not only refrains from blowing her partner out of the water with her massive pipes but always strives to find equal footing with whoever she is singing with, be it Ray Charles or Don Johnson. It’s fascinating to note how many of Streisand’s finest moments have occurred in the company of others: “Guilty” and “What Kind of Fool,” cut with one of her strongest collaborators, Barry Gibb, are immediate high points. That Streisand can hold the spotlight all by herself has never been in doubt, but Duets is a stunning example of her artistic largesse.

I'm a Barbra Streisand fan from way back, so I already had a couple of these songs on other albums, but it was well worth the modest price to have this long-running collection on one CD. It's my new favorite album of Barbra's. Her uncanny ability to beautifully blend with any style of voice, from Ray Charles, for heaven's sake, to Judy Garland, guarantees pleasant listening at the very least for all 19 songs, and butterflies in the stomach for masterpieces like Tell Him with Celine Dion. You won't regret buying this album if you love Barbra. I wish there was a sequel!
First Class Act! Wonderful ensemble of performers - Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Barry Manilow. My 5 year old daughter loves Ms. Streisand's music just as much as I do. Thank you, Ms. Streisand, for giving us this beautiful gift of your work.
This is a wonderful CD. I received this and had it playing when one of my daughters was home. (I have 3 daughters that live in Chicago). That is why bought 3 Duets so each could have one in their individual homes. We all loved the music. enjoyable
Wonderful! Easy Listening, Soothing to the heart and soul! Won't be disappointed!
I love Streisand and I love duets with Streisand of her standards. The price was right, so even if I only loved one song, it was worth it.
I work in the music industry and hear music before it hits the shelves. I was and AM overwhelmed by this awesome effort! Barbra melds her voice with notable other voices. This cd shows the versatility this diva has. I highly recommend this cd, a great bottle of wine and a blazing fire. Enjoy.
Wonderful edition selections for XMAS! This album has all different duet songs with new and old artists; it is a must have for every Barbara's fan. 19 beautiful songs mixed with happy & sad feelings;it is a great CD that allows you to listen all over again and again. Good JOB! Barb!
Barbra does it again. What a great cd.Theres nothing like hearing Barbra duets. Also another great cd is LINDA EDERS"BROADWAY MY WAY".LINDA EDER does a great version of"Dont Rain on my Parade"and other songs.Barbra and Linda are the best!Buy all their cds
Any consummate Streisand fan would be amiss not to add this CD to his/her collection--regardless of which of the four covers you may choose. These Duets will not only bring back fond memories of the first time you heard Barbra sing the song but to make new memories as well. Would you had guessed that Don Johnson could sing as well as he does? There just isn't one track that you would ask, "Why did she include THAT one?" thinking that, perhaps, she made a poor choice for inclusion. My recommendation is two thumbs up; a golden baton; a platinum microphone--hear it! You will enjoy it.
Don't be fooled by my headline, my husband and I still have our first Streisand LP's! We have been big fans for 30 years, also attending two concerts. But Barbra has had some bumpy times in the past few years, and this is the worse. Can you get any lower than recording a duet with Barry Manilow (king of the elevator music?). We're also Josh Groban fans and it shows how desperate she is to get back in the limelight by recording a duet with him. Unfortunately, she drowns out his beautiful voice rather than compliments it. Thanks to a friend we didn't buy the CD, we received it as a Christmas gift. It's now on some rack in the Goodwill store. Barbra's voice was so beautiful at one time. No longer. It's just time to recycle old albums and compile favorites so we can get them on CD format.
A mostly nice CD, very good easy listening. Not the best due to the new tracts (agree that they're mediocre at best). However, this is a good CD. It was a gift from someone who knows I love Barbra Streisand. Her voice is terrific.
I have the best. This isn't terrible, but definitely not worth the $17 I paid. I think it's telling that the album cover has a pic of young Barbra. I love the older duets with Barry Gibb but agree that she hasn't got the voice anymore to sing new duets with younger singers like Josh Groban. He is now what she used to be.....great! But together, well it's quite sad. Instead of harmonizing it just seems that she is loud! Barry Manilow is only good for a laugh.
I have been a Barbra Streisand fan since she sizzled on Broadway (I'm now 55). I have all her music and bought this CD to add to my collection. I was horrified to hear Barry Manilow singing a duet with Barbra! This man's voice is so dreadful and his music so monotonous and redundant that it could be used as an instrument for torture! How could Barbra sing with a man whose greatest credits are for doing McDonald's commercials? The old favorites, I already have. I actually thought this new CD with additional new duets would be an exciting addition to my extensive library. Absolutely not! She should definitely stay away from old boyfriends too. Don Johnson adds nothing.
I love this CD. I've always enjoyed Barbra's beautiful voice, but on this she is combined with all-time greats and shows her versatility. She sounds equally at home with Barry Gibb (my fave!), Kim Carnes, Donna Summer, Vince Gill, Kris Kristofferson, and Ray Charles. And of course, one of the best songs on there is her duet with herself! Only Barbra has the pipes to pull that off!
