Overview

"Toles stands out among today's generation of editorial cartoonists, who look for gag cartoons that supply a laugh but no deeper understanding." --Concord Monitor

Toles is an outrageously clever marksman. He draws with a scalpel instead of a pen." --Albuquerque Tribune

Political cartoonists swing a double-edged sword: They must be funny and they must have something to say. Syndicated cartoonist Tom Toles delivers on both scores, jabbing at America's status quo with well-directed wit and alacrity. "My cartoons are my best appraisal of a situation presented in the funniest and most compelling way I can," says Toles. "Read my cartoons. What I have to say is in them."

Indeed. In this collection, Duh... and other observations by Toles, Toles has gathered his favorite editorial cartoons into a droll look at American events. From the economy, to politics, to the environment, Toles lets no topic go uncovered. Sitting at his drawing board in the panel's lower corner, Toles himself always has the last word.

Take for instance the two guys talking about the news: "Another merger," says one. "Change is at hand. More consolidation. Where will it all end? Pretty soon we'll all be working for the same guy." His friend speaks up: "Nah. Pretty soon we'll all be not working for the same guy." At the bottom, Toles deadpans, "And the whiners will be the first to go."

In Duh... and other observations by Toles, Toles shares the strong opinions that have made him popular--and guarantees a chuckle in the process.
