Overview

Duncan is in the throes of a mid-life crisis and searching for his own identity. His problems seem no different than other men facing the same issues, but as he struggles through a divorce and the challenges of co-parenting his children, Duncan soon realizes that he feels complete inside only when he begins to secretly explore a world of torture and death-a world that only he controls. Suddenly, Duncan's life is no longer normal at all.

As Duncan deals with his newfound guilty pleasure of destruction and wickedness, his diary entries reflect a roller coaster psychological journey. Duncan grapples with the ramifications of what he is becoming, but at the same time, graphically describes the deaths of several of his victims. Clearly a man caught between his morals and an evil calling. Duncan leads a seemingly typical life during the day, but in the dark of night becomes a monster. Only one man suspects what Duncan is capable of-his best friend, Sudhir, a detective in the Palo Alto Police Department.

Despite Duncan's cries for help penned on the pages of his diary, he becomes a master at hiding his transformation from "the guy next door" to a masterful serial killer.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Only readers with an appetite for explicit sexual sadism will find anything worthwhile in this contemporary serial killer thriller, presented as if it were a murderer's diary. Following the separation from his wife—described in overwrought prose: "The newness of my separation from my wife hung over me like the plastic vault of a new toy recently pried open with those damned metal ties that cling to its contents"—Duncan, the finance director for a California company, goes off the rails. While on vacation in the Dominican Republic, he has a surprisingly satisfying violent sexual encounter, which triggers dormant feelings that lead him to build a killing lair in his vacation home. With his soundproof base of operations established, the psycho seeks his first victim through the world of online dating. When the woman is reported missing, the case is assigned to police detective Sudhir Takhar, but his investigative efforts can't prevent Duncan from claiming more lives. The graphic descriptions of Duncan's slaughters shock but do not add any depth to this run-of-the-mill depiction of a conscienceless killer.

Meet the Author

I started out in life as did you. A normal man who simply wished nothing more than to become educated, get a decent paying job, get married, have kids and then die. That is what life is all about unless I am mistaken. Granted there are some ups and downs sprinkled in-between but for the most part it would be difficult to tell one suburban man’s story from any of the other millions sprinkled in obscurity throughout the United States. We have our cookie cutter templates and as long as we all follow the pre-ordained pattern of obscurity, then life will be easy to navigate.

It was with this that I took on my new hobby. I refused to live by these preordained guides of life any longer. I chose to forge my own path through life and with that path came consequences.

    Too much internal dialogue/fluff

Too much internal dialogue/fluff. Pace is slow. The killing/action is quick and dull which makes this "killer" seem like a nobody compared to the serial killers he talks about.

I found myself skimming a great deal of this book. I do not need to know every detail about every character..yawn.

    Wonderfuly Creative!

This title was very entertaining and had a quick pace to it which held my attention all the way through. Definitely a page turner with plenty of twists.

    I Also Recommend:

    Very Interesting

This one gets recommended based on the authors views within the story. He definitely makes you ponder many things while seeing things through a twisted mind and wonder just how much it takes to become that twisted. This story runs a good coarse and has pretty good characters with a well thought out plan. I found it interesting and would hope others might enjoy it as well.
