Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

What has been wholly preserved [in this edition], thankfully, is this classic text's approach to teaching neuroanatomy through an integrated presentation of the anatomy, function, and clinical relevance of the regions and pathways of the central nervous system. Such an approach provides readers with a variety of ways to become more familiar with a subject that is often complex and known to inspire both admiration and dread. ...The book's dimensions do make it more inviting to open and leaf through, and its relatively small price is similarly inviting. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking greater familiarity with neuroanatomy and with the anatomical localization of neurological signs and symptoms.--Journal of Neurosurgery
Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Katherine Riordan, MD (Mayo Clinic Arizona)
Description: This thorough neuroanatomy book incorporates clinical cases and didactics to enhance learning. The previous edition was published in 2005.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an in-depth discussion of neuroanatomy with brief clinical correlations.
Audience: The book is targeted at advanced neurology students or physicians wishing to brush up on their neuroanatomy education. It gives brief overviews of clinically relevant information as well, but this is not its focus.
Features: Topics in neuroanatomy are broken down by functional groupings that are standard for most neurology books. For example, anatomical structures and systems responsible for eye movements are covered in one chapter while the various functions of the basal ganglia are covered in another. Anatomical information is correlated with expected clinical deficits localizing from various structures and systems. There are many helpful and easy to understand illustrations, which are critical to neuroanatomy books.
Assessment: This book provides high quality information on neuroanatomical systems. This is a difficult subject that warrants a separate text to complement the more clinically oriented books. The basics of neuroanatomy have not changed much since the prior edition, but the authors feel they have incorporated feedback from readers with this new edition in order to improve the information delivery.
