With the character of Dominic Toretto out of the picture, 2 Fast 2 Furious concentrates exclusively on the latest exploits of undercover agent Brian O'Connor, played by Paul Walker. In addition, with director Rob Cohen passing, producers have added a dash of credibility to the sequel by hiring John Singleton to helm. What does completely remain from the first film is the presence of fast-living underground street-racing gangs. Moving from Los Angeles to Miami, O'Connor is looking to redeem himself after the events of the first movie, so he again goes undercover to infiltrate another group of thuggish car enthusiasts. This time around he's enlisted the help of ex-con Roman Pierce Tyrese and fellow agent Monica Celemente Eva Mendes to bring down Carter Verone Cole Hauser, an importer/exporter who heads up a massive drug trafficking operation. Heading up the supporting cast are hip-hop stars Ludacris and Fabolous.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
This supercharged sequel to the sleeper 2001 hit The Fast and the Furious lacks the imposing presence of Vin Diesel but in all other respects replicates the original. In other words, it has a surfeit of hard-driving action and more than a smidgeon of sensuality, with plot and characterization left by the roadside in a cloud of dust. Boyishly handsome Paul Walker reprises his role Brian O'Connor, who has been bounced from the L.A. police force for allowing Diesel's character to escape. Now frequenting Miami's street-racing scene, Brian is enlisted by federal agents to help bust wealthy importer Carter Verone Cole Hauser, known to be a ruthless drug lord who needs top drivers to make deliveries. Working with his old pal Roman Pearce Tyrese and undercover DEA agent Monica Clemente Eva Mendes, O'Conner worms his way into Verone's organization and daily risks exposure while gathering evidence. Under the muscular direction of John Singleton, 2 Fast 2 Furious reflects the influence of hip-hop culture much more than did the original, but that’s just window dressing for the action. The car chases are extended set pieces, staged and executed flamboyantly; Singleton's choice of camera angles brings the viewer right into the chase, and the editing of these dynamic sequences maintains a truly breathless pace. Walker is just serviceable in the leading role, but sidekick Tyrese shows a flair for scene stealing, and the sultry Mendes positively oozes sex appeal. 2 Fast 2 Furious is basically just a "popcorn movie," something you watch with your brain on autopilot -- and, thankfully, it doesn't aspire to be anything else.
All Movie Guide - Michael Hastings
With its Miami Beach setting, cadre of evil-druglord villains, and gravity-defying car chases, director John Singleton's follow-up to 2001's sleeper hit The Fast and the Furious isn't really trying to live up to its predecessor so much as it's attempting to be the big-screen equivalent of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. In that respect, it can only fail. The Playstation title boasts a better cast than the Vin Diesel-less 2 Fast 2 Furious, not to mention more-authentic production design, visually coherent stunts, and -- most importantly -- a keen awareness of its own clichés. But perhaps that's an unfair comparison. To its credit, 2 Fast substitutes an irrepressible, off-the-cuff turn from Tyrese for the MIA Diesel, and Singleton doesn't try to downplay the various ethnicities of his cast the way Rob Cohen did with the first film. Of course, this means that whitebread lead Paul Walker seems even squarer than he did last time around, and as a result, his buddy-buddy rapport with Tyrese comes off less like 48 Hours and more like a middling episode of Fox's Fastlane. (Accentuating the TV feel is Singleton's reliance on David Arnold's cheesy score.) Still, Singleton's able to score enough points with his kinetic-if-ridiculous street-racer opening to make one think that there still might be some life left in this franchise after all.

    Skip this one big time

Some sequels were not meant to be made if they dont have a chance of being better than the original. Very little car action . Overall it will insult your intelligence, really think about the scenes you see, it is all fantasy , especially the ending with the Camaro, Yea right, only in Hollywood, save your time and money

    THIS MOVIE SUCKS!!!!!!!

Now I Know people out there are really not following me with this one but i have to say my peace. This movie sucked, and i mean not like just parts the whole thing. I have three main reasons why this movie was bad in my point. One the cars were way to pretty i thought i was at a import show the whole movie when really in the street racing life not all the car are flashy. Two the it didnt focus alot on racing like the first one did it side tracked way to much. And third was the acting it was corny. i mean tyresse can notact and the main character was way to talk he didnt have much acting ability to me. These are my main three reasons why i dont like the movie. The only reason that i didnt rate this movie a 1 out of 5 was because the first movie was way better and it was more realistic eventhough it had some fake parts in it to. This is my review for this movie i know people out there dont agree with me but yea i had to do it.

    Faster and Furiouser

This movie was so much furiouser than the first. And i also thought Paul Walker was even more dreamy than he was in the Fast and the Furious. This is a movie any girl should rent, and dont forget to kick your boyfriend out so he doesnt get intimidated by paul and his dreamy voice. Rent this movie!

    FAST AND FURIOUS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! A pretty good sequel this is. Just another good old fashioned summer thrill ride. As I always say, ''Who cares if a movie has a bad plot, or not so good acting; as long as the thrills and action are good. oh, and by the way, the ladies (cars) look excellent!!! Dang are those cars beautiful or what?! I am just bummed that Vin Diesel wasn't in this one. Iguesse's too busy working on XXX2 or something. Well, Paul Walker threw away his police badge and is competing in drag races and whoopin' everybody's butt in the movie. and he teams up with an old friend to take out a car smuggler and his whole clan so Walker's and his friend's records can be wiped clean. if you enjoyed the first one you'll like this one.
