Overview

As issued by Pacific Entertainment, this compilation presents mystery-themed material pulled from a number of different decades, alternately produced for television and the cinema. Contents include: a series of big-screen Sherlock Holmes features from the 1930s and 1940s, starring Arthur Wontner (The Sign of Four, Murder at the Baskervilles) and Basil Rathbone (The Woman in Green, Dressed to Kill); the Tales of the Unexpected television episodes The Stinker and I'll Be Seeing You, and the 1974 Nick Nolte telemovie Death Sentence. The second half of the compilation places a strong emphasis on selected episodes of various mystery-themed series from the 1950s, such as Highway Patrol, Dangerous Assignment, Mr. and Mrs. North, Boston Blackie and Public Defender. The set concludes with the mystery features Mr. Wong: Detective (1938), Midnight Manhunt (1935), Murder by Television (1935) and The Black Raven (1943).
