3000 Miles to Graceland

( 4 )

Overview

Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell star in 3000 Miles to Graceland, a bloody action film about heists, hairdos, and a lot of Elvis impersonators. Featuring a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Warner has done a very nice job on this impressive DVD. All aspects of the image are clear and bright, with colors looking natural and blacks darkly solid. While a small amount of edge enhancement is spotted in a few key scenes, this shouldn't interfere with the viewer's enjoyment of the film. The audio is presented in ...

The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound (in both English and French) and is also well-produced. The dialogue, effects, and the music are all crystal clear with no sign of distortion present. The directional effects are used constantly and generously throughout the entire movie. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles. Since 3000 Miles to Graceland was a box-office bomb, it's not surprising to find an anamorphic theatrical trailer and some cast and crew information as the only supplemental features available on this disc.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
For some people, one Elvis was more than enough. But this darkly humorous, ultra-violent caper flick sports dozens -- among them a handful armed with shotguns and, as the King himself might say, lookin' for trouble. In perhaps his most daring role to date, Kevin Costner plays a taciturn, sadistic hood who masterminds the elaborate robbery of a Las Vegas casino during a competition of Elvis impersonators. Costner and his partners -- including Kurt Russell, Christian Slater, and David Arquette -- figure they stand a better chance of avoiding identification and evading pursuers by dressing like Ol' Swivel Hips and blending into the crowd. It's an audacious plan, marred by unusually bad luck that sends the bandits scattering in different directions. The heist's aftermath provides fertile cinematic ground for director Demian Lichtenstein, who painstakingly details the resulting double-crosses with tongue in cheek. Courteney Cox contributes a nice supporting turn as the two-timing lover of the hapless holdup man Russell, and the other major players, each a leading man in his own right, mesh surprisingly well. But the real kudos go to Costner, whose image-trashing performance gives this over-the-top, blood-soaked shoot-'em-up most of its high-octane oomph. The DVD includes cast/crew highlights and the original theatrical trailer.
Chicago Reader
At first Costner seems to distrust the hokey character he plays, but his performance and the movie's slanted humor, rash melodrama, and ludicrous action soon become riveting. Lisa Alspector

    Violent Rednecks Rob Vegas

Man this is a violent movie! Talk about anti-heroes! Costner, Russel, Slater, and company are the most criminal bunch of rednecks imaginable. Courtney Cox, looking a whole lot beter than she does on "Friends" plays slimy trash. It's a good movie, but I hope I never meet anyone like this. This is like "Deliverance" in Vegas with attractive people.

Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, David Arquette, Christian Slater and Bokeem Woodbine as violent Elvis Presleys

First of all, and I feel I should say this, if you think, that this movie has something to do with the late Elvis Presley, then you can except a lot of his songs in here. Well, there is not. There are a total of 3 songs sung by Elvis Presley. (Trouble, Such a Night and My Way). As the movie opens, Thomas Murphy (Kevin Costner), Michael (Kurt Russell), Hanson (Christian Slater), Gus (David Arquette), and Franklin (Bokeem Woodbine) are planning to rob a casino/hotel in Las Vegas disquised as Elvis Presleys. But the robbery turns into a bloodbath of violence. And the the 6 crook Jack (Howie Long), will pick them up from the casino/hotel in a helicopter. And thier plan is to meet a money launderer (Jon Lovitz). But Franklin dies in the helicopter after being shot in the casino/hotel. And soon Gus and Hanson are killed. Michael has the money first, but he is talked into taking a single mom (Courtney Cox from Friends) and her son (David Kaye). So I think that viewers for this movie be 17 and up, while younger people under 17 will just have to read about it.
