Dafoe packs a punch with his powerhouse performance of a man living out his last days with his lover, indeed, the last days of the human race. The director does not take the usual route we have seen over and again of (How can we fix it?) This film is about what we are doing to the planet and warns us that we might not get signs that we have gone too far until there is no turning back. If the apocalypse is scheduled for 4:44, why not end it all on one's own terms? Leap from the ledge of a building? We are designed with a survival instinct. This film warns, however that we must consider our long term survival every day and act accordingly.
