40 Days and 40 NightsDirector: Michael Lehmann
Following memorable roles in the military action-adventures Pearl Harbor (2001) and Black Hawk Down (2001), young actor Josh Hartnett is propelled to romantic leading man status with this semi-autobiographical comedy from screenwriter Rob Perez. Hartnett stars as Matt Sullivan, a young man smarting over the bitter breakup of his most recent relationship. With Lent approaching, Matt decides to observe the 40-day tradition by abstaining from all sexual contact, including self-gratification. Once his odyssey of discipline has begun, he meets the girl of his dreams, while his ex begins campaigning to get him back. Co-starring Shannyn Sossamon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Vinessa Shaw, 40 Days and 40 Nights inspired another round of controversy between distributor Miramax and the Catholic League, which accused the film of being a "vulgar parody" of Lent. The League previously protested the company's releases of Priest (1994) and Dogma (1999).

Josh Harrnet is a cool guy So for lent he'll go 40 days and 40 nights without sex or forplay and most of all no masterbation He meets a girl Erika and he and her fall in love His ex girlfriend Nicole broke up with him So Its about a guy giving up sex
I only laughed 2 or 3 times at best, very slow movie .
I was disappointed that Josh Hartnett would take a role such as this one, after so many other wonderful performances (ie Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor). This movie is basically soft porn, and I almost walked out of the movie theater because of the pointlessness of the plot, and crude sexual scenes. If there are any guys in the world that actually have lives LIKE the main character in the movie, they must lead sad sad lives.
the guy who wrote that (above me) is in denial. i'm sorry, but sex is NORMAL! get over it. we're humans, ok? i liked this movie because it wasn't afraid to be hon
the movies was so funny my friends and I laughed through the whole thing..we love josh but the movie was hilarious...it was a great script...I anticipate sept 17 to buy it...I would recomend it to anyone
I never really saw a movie like this and I liked this movie.I loved seeing Josh Hartnett being all jittery and falling apart-I always seeing him all serious in his movies, except for The Virgin Suicides, and in one scene in Pearl Harbor.Cool movie!
i think this movie is the best comedy ive seen all year. josh hartnett is the hottest guy and he deserves to play this character. a lot of guys like that are out there in this world and he brings it into the open. it has very funny sexual humor.
This movie was so cleverly written and played out.. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next!
i think that anything with Josh Hartnett is a good movie! I have a certain respect for him.The movie wasn't bad, it was actualy funny, so go see it.
Okay, you guys have seen the Pearl Harbor's and the Black Hawk Down's, but you really haven't seen a film like this. Well, maybe you have. Anyway, this movie is quite witty and hilarious. One thing that wasn't a plus were the few crude nude scenes, but I believe the sheer passion of the film drags the upsets out of the water. Shannon Sossamon is great and sexy and Josh Hartnett is on top and performs well, too. This is probably my favorite romantic comedy of 2002.
i thought that this was a great movie. anything with josh hartnett is good. his character is hilarious. this is the best movie. everyone needs to see it.
I dont just love this movie because the hottest guy on earth stars in it but because it is truthfully funny and amusing.Every movie I have seen Josh Hatnett in are all good. He plays different types of roles and does an extraordinary job. This is definitely one of his best works as well as in Pearl Habor, Black Hawk Down, and The Faculty.
