Nine years after the Yuletide slasher flick Black Christmas, Porky's director Bob Clark once again took on the holiday genre, switching from gasps to laughs with A Christmas Story. Adapted from a memoir by humorist Jean Shepherd (who narrates), the film centers on Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley), a young boy living in 1940s Indiana, desperately yearning for a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas. Despite protests from his mother (Melinda Dillon) that he'll shoot his eye out, Ralphie persists, unsuccessfully trying to enlist the assistance of both his teacher and Santa Claus. All the while, Ralphie finds himself dealing with the constant taunts of a pair of bullies and trying to not get in the middle of a feud between his mother and father (Darren McGavin) regarding a sexy lamp.

This is my favorite Christmas Movie. However, be warned. If you're thinking of buying the 2-disc 20th anniversary edition because you want a widescreen version of this movie then don't buy it. The ¿widescreen version¿ is actually a cut down version of the already cut down ¿standard version¿ of the movie. So, if you watch this disc's ¿widescreen version¿ you'll see even less of the movie. Just buy the cheeper DVD and save $'s.
This movie is so great and hilarious.
A classic that's fun all year round. Few films hold up as well as this one. It's hilarious every time you see it. Warm, funny, cute, sweet and entertaining to watch any time of the year. This special edition is great, there are a ton of well produced extras that fans will love.
Seller was great. Helped me locate package when it got held up in mail. Would recommend to everyone
Love It! Love it! Love It! This is a great movie. Not the best for younger children ( because of swearing). I love " Ohhhhhhh Fuuuuddddgggggeee"! Lol.
A Christmas Story is a holiday classic that everyone needs to watch during the holiday season or anytime of the year that you need a good laugh!
This is one movie that is a must for everyone who has memories of those youthful years when snow was the most exciting part of winter, and snowsuits were an adventure. This movie hits the spot more so during the holidays, but is as equally entertaining at any time of the year. Darren Mcgavin is hilarious as the often mumbling and harmless father doing his best to make the holiday season enjoyable. One of the funniest scenes is the final dinner scene and the accompanying sing-along song. I absolutely recommend A Christmas Story to one and all and to all a good time.
One of the funniest holiday movies. I love the tale of the seven year old boy who gets his tongue stuck to a frozen pole on a triple dare!
I love this movie from the time I first seen it in the movie. It's my favorite Holiday movie of all time and will always be.This is my favorite christmas movie that gets me into the holiday mood. You will be filled with holiday stuffing and room for more.
I love this movie like everyone else. It touches the heart of every American boy who grew up wanting that toy that he thought he'd never get in a million years. Oh, and regarding my headline, guys relate to this movie on many levels, but if you've ever been tormented by a bully then you understand Ralphie's fear of Scott Farkus. I think every boy who never got revenge on that bully wished he were Ralphie when he saw him kick his butt. But revenge aside, all the other scenes relate just as well today as they did back in 83 when the movie came out and they relate just as well as in the 40's where the movie was set. Merry Christmas and Fa-ra-ra-ra-ra Ra-ra-ra-ra
A better Christmas movie has never been made! Terrific for both kids and adults alike!
This is our family favorite. Good for all ages, except those who would be shocked by a Santa who is just a touch sadistic!! Though our family is full of grown ups now, the ''kids'', Mom, & Dad, still enjoy watching this together!
I have enjoyed watching this movie for many, many years. It is a tradition to pop this movie in the vcr the day after Thanksgiving and watch it while bringing out the Christmas decorations. It really gives you a boost into the Christmas spirit. Although, I do perfer the traditional turkey over the Chinese roast duck!
This is without a doubt, one of my all time favorites!! Ralphie is the best. The time period is about 20 years before my time, but I love it just the same, and think it's how things must really have been. When kids used to get excited over the small things and obeying your parents meant something.
Great flick...a hilarious classic
This is a must see movie
You'll laugh so hard ''you'll shoot your eye out''!
Long time family tradition. I Thought we were alone! Well I'm not supposed to reveal a bunch in the movie if I want this posted. But I recommend it for anyone who can handle any sort of intelligent humor hehe! => It's one of the few Christmas movies that's a true comedy and doesn't force in a corny ending. Enjoy it!
My husband (esp.) and I look forward to this classic each year. He recites lines while watching the movie, and will even pop one off at other times when appropriate. It's amazing how we never get tired of watching it, even several times in a season. What a great movie to remind us all that life doesn't have to be so complicated.
Each year on Christmas Eve one of the cable stations runs a ''Christmas Story'' marathon...they show it over and over... each year I watch it maybe 10 times...and laugh harder each time I see it!!!
I have started a new life in my middle age, and with a new wife who turned me on to this movie.I thought I had seen all the Christmas movies - good and bad...how did this movie get past me? I was a Red Ryder BB Gun wisher too and I definitely know about this little guy's angst. As a parent I know the other side too. But reflecting back, this movie made me feel the old longings of Christmas past without all the politically correct stuff of today. Sometimes you just gotta have somethig special for Christmas - right or wrong! Fun movie with unexpected laughs that I'll watch from now on! - Red Ryder BB Gun Owner at age 52
The whole family will love it. We can't wait for Thanksgiving to come so we can watch. You won't need your ''Little Orphan Annie'' secret decoder to figure out this should be a new Christmas tradition!
