    Where's the Closed Captioning?

    I would have LOVED to see this but due to the poor planning of the producers of this DVD there is no subtitling or closed captioning.

    A New Approach

    Obviously a history of Britain is monumental. So selecting a number of important times and events and people is an interesting way to deal with such a vast amount of material. Schma is so engaging that you become so wrapped up in the different subjects that when it is over you are hoping for Vol 2. It led me to research more on my own. I can't recommend it enough. It left me wanting more and wanting to hop on a plane to visit Great Britain.

    Great DVD !!!!

    My daughter and I both love this DVD ... it has so much information and kept us both glued to the TV watching it. My daughter has even watched some 2 and 3 times.. I'm glad I bought it.

    Britain: Born in Insignificancy, Raised in Greatness, Maturing in Justice

    A History of Britain is one of the best DVD-sets that has ever been produced about a geographical and historical entity. The DVD-set does not stick to a strict chronological approach to history. The narrator, Simon Schama, a university professor in history and author of several books, enlivens the traditional approach to British history by looking at the key personalities and cultural influences that have defined the history of Britain and its former possessions. After the initial viewing, many viewers will feel compelled to screen one or another of the 15 episodes from time to time due to the usually high quality of these episodes. A History of Britain could be used as a template to realize more high-quality DVD-sets covering other major geographical and historical entities.

    Simon Shama does it again

    As in his companion books, Dr. Schama has a way with words that brings the past alive in vivid enjoyment. This series is long but it is worth every single hour. Fantastic!

    Excellent!

    I have watched A History of Britain so many times--I have it memorized. Schama brings British history to life. I highly recommend the box set and the companion books.
