Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
The screen's unlikeliest action hero, Vin Diesel, takes center stage in this slam-bang thriller, which gives the charismatic new star ample opportunities to demonstrate his considerable strengths as a leading man. After working undercover for seven years, streetwise DEA agents Sean Vetter Diesel and Demetrius Hicks Larenz Tate finally take down the head honcho of the notorious Baja Cartel. A mysterious new kingpin, nicknamed Diablo, makes the drug war personal by killing Vetter's wife, Stacy NYPD Blue's Jacqueline Obradors, and Sean swears he'll get revenge -- even though it means going outside the law to do so. Despite his thuggish appearance, Diesel embodies many of the qualities that made the young Sylvester Stallone a star. A Man Apart is tailor-made for an actor of Diesel's range, being a standard-issue revenge yarn embellished with some fanciful touches à la Dirty Harry. Director F. Gary Gray The Negotiator starts the picture off with a bang, of which there are many more --progressively bigger and louder ones -- before justice prevails. Tate supplies strong support as Vetter's partner, and Obradors is so good as the wife that one wishes she had more screen time. But this is Diesel's show, and he struts his stuff in a big way, bulldozing his way across the screen with brio. His presence makes A Man Apart a film to have.

    GOOD ACTION

This movie was certainly different for Vin Diesel, but he proved he could play it well. The story to this movie isn't really that interesting, but keeps you watching because of all the action.

    Oh sh*t

This is unlike any film Vin Diesel has ever done but in this film we see alot more emotional side of Vin. This shows that Vin can not only do the horror and the action, but also the drama. This movie has everything. Though their are gruesome pictures, the storyline is fantastic, and has everything you need in a spectacular film. Plus, Vin Diesel is soooo hot!

    Just ok

I thought this movie was ok, but it was lacking in some areas. There was holes in the story amongst other things. It was a good idea, it just came out wrong. It's worth renting.

    great movie with witty storyline

A Man Apart is very different from most other movies vin diesel has done but in a good way. The action is still there but you see a more emotional diesel in this film and i think it widens his horizons as an actor. a must see movie
