Great DVD on the Disease of Addiction

As a chemical dependency counselor, I found the DVD an excellent resource to show my patients on the disease of addiction. The program explained the concept of addiction in a way that a lay person could understand. My patients were able to watch a segment and then discuss how their addiction relates. I had many of them say that they learned something new after watching the program. Some of them had been to treatment more than a few times. Contrary to the review below, in your face programs do not work very often. Most addicts already know the negative consequences of using but cannot stop. This program is designed for the average person who may or may not use and believe the myth that "a person can just stop on their own" or that it is a "character flaw of a weaki person"

Highly recommended for patients and their families

I work with patients who have co-occurring disorders. I have integrated the Addiction series as part of my therapeutic work with patients (I work in a rehab facility). It is very informative, educational and interesting. I recommend this for therapists, patients, and their families to become informed about addiction.

    Not what I expected

So far, I've watched 2 out of the 4 dvds. To be honest, I'm disappointed. I was expecting a more in-your-face approach to drug addiction and its consequences. Most of this dvd was about treatment. It was like "ok, you are on drugs so what can we do to help." I thought I was going to see addicts face down in a ditch or getting their stomachs pumped in the ER. The kind of footage which would show people where they will end up if they use drugs. I thought the PBS documentary on meth was much more interesting and effective.
