    This is great!

You can't go wrong with Miss Marple! It keeps you interested and provides you a murder mysery without all of the gore. I sometimes have a difficult time with the British accent films, but I did fine with this one. I want to own the entire set!

All of Agatha Christies books have engaged me since I was a NY teenager.

The Miss Marple series is as excellent as the Hercule Poirot series. Joan Hickson has always seemed the most like the book character was intended. Hayes, Rutherford and the other players of the part were not as real to me.

This set was really a terrific present for me! I have read most of Agatha Christie's books about Miss Marple but didn't think I'd enjoy it on film. The series does the best to bring Christie's books to life and with only a few changes. Joan Hickson is on the mark as Christie's Miss Marple. She is clever and always fools the killer into believing that she is too old to figure it all out. My favorites are Murder at the Vicarage and Nemesis. The wonderful Donald Plesance is terrific as the grouchy millionaire who first dismisses Miss Marple as an elderly busybody, they realizes she's anything but. His Jason Rafiel character gives Miss Marple the moniker of "Nemesis." I also enjoyed Bertram's Hotel because it's a rare time we see Miss Marple out of Saint Mary Mead. Like the Poirot series, all of the sets and scripts are very enjoyable. The acting is terrific.

Joan Hickson is absolutely wonderful as Miss Marple. The scripts are written to mirror Agatha Christie's books without loss of mystery and quality. In "Moving Finger" there's a sense of romance and murder mystery, connected to poison pen letters. I LOVED "Bertram's Hotel" because we get Miss Marple in the big city. Being an Anglophile "love all things British", I enjoyed watching Miss Marple enjoying tea in a posh hotel and shopping. All this while figuring out mysteries surrounding Bertram's and of course Murder. "Murder at the Vicarage" is set in the country and Miss Marple sees all things while working in her garden. I also loved "Nemesis," because Miss Marple is entrusted with solving a murder by a friend who has passed away. All of these mysteries present Agatha Christie's quality writing, twists and turns with superb acting. Nothing is lost here. The "New" Miss Marple mysteries are absolutely dreadful, so if you're a Christie and Miss Marple fan, these are the best.

The best Miss Marple out there!

I've seen all these Miss Marples and they are the best! If you like to watch a good mystery with a wonderful British Country feel you'll find it here. The acting is wonderful. And you'll see a few familar faces. If you don't want to buy this I've found these on VHS at my local library. But they are worth the money. Even after knowing who the killed whom I still watch it over and over due to the wonderful job A&E did. I have seen bad and boring versions of Miss Marple but this isn't one of them. After watching I always want to have proper English tea.
