Overview

The first season of the critically acclaimed Alias comes to DVD with anamorphic widescreen transfers of all 22 episodes, including the uncut 65-minute pilot. The series was shot in the HDTV format, so the picture quality is excellent, far surpassing that of the original standard-definition television broadcasts. Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound is available, as is a Spanish-language option. Notable extra features include six deleted scenes, a gag reel, a production diary, and a ten-minute documentary focusing on the show's stunt work. There are also commentary tracks on four episodes: "Truth Be Told, "So It Begins..., "Q and A, and "Almost Thirty Years." The high quality of the picture and sound make this set a must-have for fans, and newcomers will find it to be the perfect entry point into an enthralling series.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Cree McCree
"You know what would be amazing? If Felicity were recruited by the CIA and sent on these crazy kick-ass missions." Sound far-fetched? Not if you're Felicity creator J. J. Abrams, who spun that daft idea into Alias, a spy-fi fantasy with more gizmos than James Bond and more plot twists than The X-Files. Felicity alumnus Jennifer Garner stars as wham-bam vixen Sydney Bristow, a grad student who moonlights as a double agent. Sent by the CIA to infiltrate SD-6, a nefarious global cabal, Sydney's got espionage in her blood: Her estranged father, Jack Barstow (Victor Garber), plays the spy-versus-spy game on his daughter¹s side (or does he?), while her presumed-dead mother pledged allegiance to the KGB. This dysfunctional family saga adds another layer to the tangle of subplots, which date back to the 15th century and a mysterious inventor named Rambaldi. Smart scripts and clever pacing earned Alias 11 Emmy nominations straight out of the gate. But it's the dazzling pyrotechnics -- and Garner's drop-dead outfits -- that made Alias must-see TV for the hipster set. Guest-star turns by such icons of cool as Quentin Tarantino, Roger Moore, and real-life hacker (and convicted felon) Kevin Mitnick boost Season 1's cult status. Gearheads also have cause to rejoice: DVD extras include Marshall Finkman's gadget gallery, which displays whiz-bang inventions like a camera disguised as lipstick and a cell phone that reads fingerprints.

This series is amazing...it is like a non-stop movie- and has all the components: action, romance, and many conflicts. I recommend this to everybody because there is something in it for everyone.

This is the best show in the world. I'm not a huge fan of television shows, but this is one I watch religiously. I even go so far as to reschedule my Sunday plans around it. This role was written for Jennifer Garner. It's about time tv got a kick butt, female spy. If you don't buy the DVD set, atleast start watching the tv show. I love how it keeps you hooked until the very end and then leaves you craving for the next episode. So far, both season finales have made me wish summer would hurry up and end so they show can start again. =)

For the last 2 years, this and 24 have been the only shows on broadcast TV that are worth a darn (Firefly, too, but that was canceled); and I really can't decide which is better. Believable characters, great story lines, lots of action and fresh ideas. Hard to believe that ABC with its whole reality television thing is producing this...

Alias is an amazing show. My husband and I watch this show together (only one we can agree on) religiously. Skeptical at first, we quickly became addicted and recommend it to everyone. I can't wait for summer to end so we can watch new episodes of Alias!

This show is so horrible!!! I mean that in a good way though. I can't stop watching... why would they make a show that's so addicting? Must check into... Alias rehab. Get this set and join me. Ms. Garner will control us all!

sidney bristow is a college student working for a company that she thinks is the branch of the cia. when she finds out they are working against the US, she turns to the real cia to help her. She is the ultimate double agent. James Bond meets Jack Beaur.

I'm overseas in Italy with the military and picked up the first season of Alias just by chance. I couldn't believe it, each episode was better than the last one. The whole cast does a great job. My advice is, if you've never seen it before, don't start watching it late at night, I stayed up through the entire night because I couldn't wait until morning to watch the next episode!

J.J. Abrams has got to be one of the finest creators of television series yet to come. I have taped Alias since day one, and even though we haven't started season 2 yet in Australia, I'm looking forward to each and every episode to come. A powerful cast mixed with fantastic writing make this a worthwhile show to watch for years to come.
