Overview

Adapted from the bestselling autobiographical tome of the same name by veterinarian-turned-scribe James Herriot (as well as its many sequels), the iconic television drama All Creatures Great and Small ran for twelve years and seven series. It was produced by and for the BBC in its native Britain, then re-aired on PBS for years in the United States. This package contains all ten episodes from Series Four - among them, "City Slicker," "The Healing Touch," and "Barks and Bites." This was the series, as many fans will recall, when actress Lynda Bellingham turned up to replace Carol Drinkwater as Helen. The story finds the Herriots, now in the 1950s, grappling with the austerity that fell like a shroud over postwar Britain; with Tristain off to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Herriot's practice pulls in a Scotsman named Calum (John McGlynn) who turns up on a motorcycle with a badger in his suitcase. Bonus supplements include interviews with Christopher Timothy and John McGlynn, and a segment entitled 'Who's Who in the Cast.'

Just as good now as then

As a younger person I read these books and then watched the TV dramatization and loved it. Now as a 50 something I am just as in love with this series. The actors portraying the Herriot characters are so spot on and perhaps even better than I imagined in my mind as I first read. Such a delight and never out of style.
