Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Marlene McCampbell
"Men are like gum anyway," Ally McBeal has observed. "After you chew, they lose their flavor." Snappy writing such as this -- plus quirky sight gags and a heroine whose underlying longing seemed acutely genuine -- helped Ally McBeal become the talk of the fall TV season in 1997. These six first-season episodes cover the early adventures of Ally, the Harvard-trained lawyer with a temper as short as her thigh-baring skirts and a personal life that can be safely described as volatile. In the pilot, Ally the winsome Calista Flockhart arrives at a Boston law firm where her nose-whistling, wattle-fondling colleagues include her childhood sweetheart Billy Gil Bellows, a married attorney she still yearns to debrief. Despite herself, Ally took to his brainy, beautiful wife, Georgia Courtney Thorne-Smith, and the central case in the second episode here "Silver Bells" mirrors the trio's emotionally charged dynamic. Ally's dating life takes shape in the next two episodes; she's off on a fling with a hunky art model in "Cro-Magnon" and out with two Mr. Not-Likelys a salad-dressing dribbler and a bemused rabbi in "The Attitude." In the final two episodes, "Theme of Life" and "The Playing Field," Ally consults with her wacky therapist Tracey Ullman to unhook herself from hallucinations of the infamous Dancing Baby -- but not before confronting him on her own terms. "Get your little cherubic ass out here," a pajama-clad Ally barks to the apparition, and the two exuberantly boogie. Isn't that what Ally always makes you feel like doing?

    The Best Show!

Ally McBeal was a GREAT show and I really wish they had kept it on the air. There was always something to relate to no matter what topic they covered! I really hope they come out with a box set that has all the shows on it.

    Awesome!

This was one of the best shows ever on television. This collection of episodes is fantastic, but too short. They need to bring out the whole series. Nothing was like Ally McBeal. In a class all it's own. It's time to bring on the rest of it and Robert Downey Jr.!!!!!

    This is my favorite show.

I watched this show religiously when it was on TV. I had to battle a lot of depression when it was canceled. By now I am so happy to see it again. I would very highly recommend buying this series to other highly emotional men.

The Ally McBeal Entire Cast and Guest Stars

What a treat of a show--The best in TV's history if you ask me. Calista is the star, but each and every cast member are equally interesting and fun. If I had to pick favorites it would be Fish & Cage (the most amusing and greatest deliveries by the actors). I'm addicted, and that doesn't happen often on TV shows: Frasier and maybe Raymond are the only others I never missed.

'' Ally Mcbeal is the best show out there!''

I love Ally Mcbeal. The show combines drama and comedy. Almost anyone who watches it can relate to one of the characters. I think that every one out there should get this. I also like Calista Flockhart and think she is wonderful in this.
