Overview

The All-Day Yoga Workout: A.M., Stress Relief, and P.M. Yoga for Beginners is an easy-to-use DVD featuring three relaxing yoga workouts. The DVD's main menu allows viewers to choose their workout, learn the basics, and see bonus features. "Choose Your Workout" gives the option for selecting from any of three 20-minute workouts: "A.M." with Rodney Yee; "Stress Relief," led by Suzanne Deason; or "P.M." with Patricia Walden. All workouts feature relaxing new age music and stylish, if slightly grainy visuals. There are digital artifacts from the transfer, but they don't distract from the tranquillity or execution of the workouts. Audio is crisp and clean, making it easy to understand all of the instructors' commands. A final selection under "Choose Your Workout" explains how to use props, which include blocks, straps, and other paraphernalia; it would be nice for the DVD's case to mention that props are used in the workouts, so viewers don't have to scramble to the store to purchase them, though household substitutes can be found. "Learn the Basics" gives details about 24 yoga poses, via images and text, so viewers can perfect them for the workouts. Bonus features include glossy interviews with the instructors, instructor bios, and a chapter search feature. The bios and interviews seem to strive for motivation, though the text of the bios is blurry and small, thus nearly impossible to read. The search feature doesn't add much to the workouts, since they are presented in a linear fashion. A "music sampler" feature functions mostly as a promotional element, as the screen shows a CD case and a phone number for ordering the CD as the music plays. Outside of the rather fluffy supplements, the DVD is definitely worth a look for yoga novices.

I have desperately been searching for a true beginniner yoga tape and I finally found it. A.M./P.M. yoga is done at a reasonable pace and, if you're not really flexible, you're not left scrambling between poses because you couldn't get there the same way the instructor did (which is what I was doing on all of the other tapes I have). It's difficult for me right now because of the fact that I'm alot more stiff than I thought I was. As my flexibility increases this tape might get boring but at least it's providing me with a place to start. I was beginning to think I'd never be able to do yoga but this tape changed my mind. I really like the DVD because you can skip through the introductions directly to the workout. I wish the chapter search was easier to find though. You have to go to the extras section to find the chapter search.
