More About This Product

Overview

This lengthy compilation on the theme of Native American lives and history brings together assorted documentary and feature materials, produced over a span of several decades. It opens with two hour-long nonfiction films, Great Indian Leaders and the follow-up, Great Indian Nations, laced with the biographical accounts of such historical figures as Chief Joseph, Crazy Horse, Quanah Parker and Geronimo. The program begins its foray into drama with Rolf Forsberg's 2003 direct-to-video feature Sacagawea, on the heroic acts of the titular teenage girl and her involvement in saving the Lewis & Clark Expedition. I Will Fight No More Forever, a 1975 U.S. made-for-television movie starring Sam Elliott, was originally produced by David L. Wolper as an ABC prime-time feature; it dramatizes the historic tragedy of Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce. The set also includes The Sign of the Beaver (AKA Keeping the Promise), a 1997 made-for-television movie starring Annette O'Toole that originally aired on CBS, and tells of a colonial family struggling to survive in 1768 Maine. Director William Clark's 1994 Windrunner stars Margot Kidder and Russell Means, in its fantasy-themed tale of a young boy who receives some much-needed counsel and guidance from the spirit of Native American football hero Jim Thorpe. The final feature in the set, 2006's direct-to-video drama The Legend of Tillamook's Gold, concerns a young girl who experiences the most exciting summer of her life on the beach and uncovers a thrilling Native American legend about ancient treasure.
