Overview

Creepy experiments abound in a local medical school in the horror thriller Anatomy. Columbia has produced a very well-rendered 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer of this movie. The colors all look very bright and even with black levels dark and thick. Only a slight amount of edge enhancement shows up in a few key scenes. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 in a dubbed English version and French, as well as Dolby 2.0 in English, German, and French. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack is very full with surround sounds utilized through both the front and rear speakers. A small amount of distortion shows up in a few scenes, though otherwise this is a great-sounding audio track. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles. Anatomy is dissected into a very well-produced special edition. Starting off this disc is a commentary by German director Stefan Ruzowitzky (with English subtitles). The director has a lot to say about the making of this film, and seems to genuinely enjoy his film. A group of "deleted and extended scenes" are included with the director's commentary, which give insight into why they were left on the cutting-room floor. A music video from one of the actresses in Anatomy is featured, plus a short, yet insightful making-of featurette that is also dubbed in English. Finally, there are some theatrical trailers, a few production notes, and some thin talent files.

If you are a German speaker, then this film will keep you awake at night. It loses its fear factors in English, yes, and with subtitles. This movie is not as predictable as other horror films, and is less censored than the conservative American films. This film does not try to shield the naive, or those with delicate sensibilities.
