Violinist-conductor Andre Rieu and his Dutch-based Johann Straus Or-
chestra have been on the music scene for a number of years now and this,
their latest release, is typical of his many ventures. Yes, it is gaudy
and flamboyant but underneath this outer veneer is a higly accomplished musician (and ditto for the orchestra) who have put together yet anoth- er imaginative program, this one originating from the beautifully res- tored Semper Opera House in Dresden.
This tme around Rieu serenades several couples who decide to get married
onstage at the opera house - ansd so the program goes on with the blend
of musicality and humor which has become Rieu and Comapany's trademark.
Some may find his routine over the top, but Rieu is always engaging with his commentary and repartee with the audience. I think most will like the program - as mentioned above, there is excellent music-making amid the shtick. An entertaning concert which you are sure to enjoy.
Sound and visuals are excellent.
