This production of "Anne of Green Gables" is a beautiful little masterpiece. It is, for me, a part of my childhood memories. I can vividly remember when this miniseries was first broadcast on PBS here in the United States, when I was a little girl. I was only about 5 years old- too young to have ever watched a film of this type before - and yet “Anne” somehow drew me in early on, and I sat entranced in front of the television screen for the entire story. I later read LM Montgomerty’s books and enjoyed them very much, but that was years after I had fallen in love with her characters because of this film and its sequel. I'm now 25 and this is still one of my favorite movies of all time. It is incredible in every way- from the acting and storyline to the hauntingly beautiful theme music. Young Megan Follows delivered an absolutely brilliant, perfect performane as Anne. She is one of the main reason I love the “Anne” films so much. She was complimented extremely well by the rest of the cast, especially Collen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth. The movie is also enjoyable to a broad audience. Over the years of watching and re-watching this miniseries in our family, my dad and brother have always enjoyed it as much as my mom and I. I think that's because it's not the least bit sappy. Its hilariousy sharp(and often dry) humor prevents it from seeming overly sentimental at all. Yet, it also tugs gently at the heartstrings and makes you cry. It’s a classic, and deserves to be more famous than it is.

This film is timeless! I enjoyed it immensely when I first saw it. I recently purchased it for my 10 year old granddaughter. She loved it and it provided some good learning conversations with her parents who watched it with her. I also saw this film used at the women's drug and alcohol rehab where I worked a number of years ago. Many of the women could relate to the early themes of abuse and feeling unwanted that existed in Anne's early years. This film will make you laugh and cry and cheer on the delightful Anne Shirley. It will probably also give you a yearning to visit beautiful Prince Edward Island.

I loved watching Anne of Green Gables with my children and now we watch them with my grandchildren. I bought it for all of my grandchildren. My daughter said it is the joy of her life to watch Anne with her daughters. (they are 5 and 7 years of age)

I saw this series for the first time in 6th grade English class (about 15 years ago) and loved every minute of it. Excellent script, acting performances, scenery, and directing. I literally wanted to live in Canada after watching this movie. One of my few favorite movies of all time. I shared this movie with my step mom and she literally watched the 1st movie (both parts) and the sequel on the edge of her seat & shared her experience with everyone at work the next day. I passed it along to one of my grandmothers who had never seen it and she watched the whol series twice before returning it. I highly recommend not only seeing this as well as the sequel, but owning them as well, movies just aren't made like this very often.

Anne of Green Gables is about love and family. Anne is a very strong female character. Great movie for girls (and boys too!).

I had seen this before and wanted to give it as a gift to my Granddaughter. The story is as engaging now as when I saw it many years ago. I felt that the characters were real for the time period and the cast played the roles excellently.
A very moving story of a lonely girl growing up.

I now have the complete set and it is wonderful viewing. It is true to life and the characters were portrayed perfectly. I had read the book when I was young and loved the book but watching it on DVD really brings it to life. This can be viewed and loved by every family member. How wonderful it is to be able to view something without vulgar language thrown in. Also recommend "Christy" and "Road to Avonlea" which is a spin off of Anne of "Green Gables"

I saw this when i was about 6 or 7. I'm a older teenager now, and I still love it.Anne will always be apart of me, and i hope my daughter(s) will love it too. I've seen all 3 movies, and I'am never dissapointed. This is the kind of movie to watch when your sick, or in a bad mood. It will cheer you right up. It's also perfect, for any mood. Anyone can relate to Anne. The characters are flawless. Espessally Megan, I adore her. Anything that Marilla said or her facial expressions, always makes me laugh. Gil is so adorable . If only everyone in the world was like the Characters in Anne of Green Gables.

When I was a child,I had a terrible ear ache.As soon as I started to watch Anne of Green Gables and so forth... My ear ache had went away. I loved to watch it then later on I started to buy the books. I still have them. Ahh! It was lovely to see the relationship between Anne and Gilbert blossom. I have gone to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video but there's nothing on their shelves with Anne of Green Gables,Anne of Avonlea,...Her best friend Diana was so warm and friendly. Sometimes you wish all the people you meet are as lovely and comforting as Anne's best friend.

I love the books by Lucy Maude Montgomery and while this movie isn't 100% faithful it is very close to the books with only a couple of minor changes and is an absolutely beautiful movie! The whole cast is superb but especially Megan Follows as Anne, Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla, Richard Farnesworth as Matthew and Jonathan Crombie as Gilbert.

I first saw this movie a couple years after it came out when I was just a little girl and I have loved it from the start. I connected with Anne Shirley in so many ways because I am also a redhead. Megan Follows could not have done a better performance as Anne. The location is breathtaking so breathtaking that I kept wishing I could magically go there, the supporting cast is superb (not to mention Colleen Dewhurst as Marila). I don't think anyone could have asked for a better adaptation of a novel. Every time I see this film it takes me back to when I first saw it as a child. Watch it with loved ones or by yourself it will warm your heart either way.

I first read Anne (with an e)of Green Gables when I was eleven years old. I have since given it to my daughters and to my granddaughter. It is by far one of the best books and films I have ever seen, if not THE best. I fell completely in love with Anne and her life story. I have read the book at least six or seven times and seen the film that many times also. It is a classic and I can't praise it enough. Megan Follows is a perfect Anne.

There have been many people I have convinced to watch this film (and its sequel) that were reluctant to watch it because they thought this was a girls' or a children's film. When they finally conceded to watch it, they were blown away. This film is classic storytelling with deep emotion, incredible passion, and breathtaking scenery. It should be required viewing for all literature students. Granted, the director Kevin Sullivan has embellished the story plot, since the books (outside of the first one) are lacking in some depth. But what he has done is remain faithful to the spirit of the story's characters, and created a masterpiece of storytelling genius. Throw away your preconceived notions and give this film, and its sequels, a watch and you will not be disappointed.
