Anne Of Green Gables: The Continuing Story

Doesn't compare with the 1st & 2nd, But you Still Want to See How it All Ends

So all of the characters are back, with the exception of Marilla, played by Colleen Dewhurst(who passed on shortly after the sequel. Just not a strong enough storyline (although it was based on the book) to capture the same magic of the first 2. I still like this one mainly because you finally get to see Anne and Gilbert live married and happily ever after. Kevin Sullivan did not direct this one, but he did still serve as a producer and screenwriter.

If you want to see how it all ended watch this story, just don't expect it to meet or exceed the quality of the first 2.

I can't give it 2 1/2 stars so I settled for 3, simply because I do believe it is better than a 2 star movie.

Super disappointing

This movie was a major disappointment for me. I've read all the books and have been a huge fan of the first movie and its sequel since I was a kid, so I was very excited to see that the original actors/actresses came back for a third movie. However, this movie completely diverges from the books and even the time period is incorrect. The only things that are the same between this movie and the original series are the actual characters and a location.

Good....But Different...

This was a wonderful movie, dont get me wrong...but it was so different. Nothing like this ever happened in the books...at least not with Gilbert and Anne...it was very enjoyable...just expect a suprise when you watch it...

New Director and Writer

I heard this 3rd movie had a different screen writer and director. That would explain why this one had such a different feel from the other movies. I agree with the posts, pretend this movie doesn't exist and laugh and cry with the 1st 2.

A disappointing continuing story

I agree with most of the other reviewers, this movie was such a disappointment. The books are so great, and Anne's life with her children are full of wonderful stories. She is much too old to still be engaged in this movie. I agree with others, why did the film makers destroy the story?

Don't even watch it. You'll be happier.

I bought this sight unseen since I love the other two so much and have watched them repeatedly. This movie had none of the charm of the first two. The books have so much good material that could have been used to create a great third movie. Apparently the writers of this one had no clue as to why so many of us love the Anne books and the first two movies. The small things of life were not good enough for them. Well, this movie is not good enough for me. What a waste!

It did stray from the books...

This movie wasn't the best, but it wasn't too bad. It had nothing in common with the book, but if it did, time would be jammed together. For example, Anne's sons served in WW1 at this time. They were pretty much grown up. In real life, they would be that age closer to WW2. Lucy Maud Montgomery had written this book around WW1, and nobody had any idea there would be a WW2. However, I will like all of her books much more than the movies, even though the first and second movies were pretty close to the book (with a few exeptions) and very good. Even though the plot was WAY off the book, the timing is much more accurate, and if the children had not been added to the books yet, this might be what the books turned out to be. Still, they could have been a lot more faithful to the books. I only recommend this to people who are willing to see a different path from the books.

Horrible!

I also looked forward to seeing this movie and when I found out that PPS was showing it I set my VCR timer to tape it and when I watched it I was very disappointed! I love the books by Lucy Maude Montgomery and I loved the first two movies even though they weren't 100% faithful to the books but The Continuing Story was dreadful and very unfaithful to the books and had nothing in common with the other movies. This movie is a major stinker!

a big disappointment.....

I was really looking forward to watching "Anne the Continuing story" when it came out. What a huge let down! The story was lame....Nothing like what heppened in the books (I mean hello, Gil didn't go to war, his sons did!). I guess this is a perfect example of what happens when you stray from the original story.

What happened to the real story?

The original cast reunited for this film, but it doesn't make it worth watching. I think it is sad that after two wonderful adaptations of the Lucy Maud Montgomery books, the film makers put out such a disgraceful film. The real books and the story the tell of Anne and Gilberts early marriage and the births of their children were wonderful and far better than this farce that had no connection what-so-ever with the original stories. People might be interested to know that Gilbert would have been a bit old to serve in WWI and in fact the couple had two sons who served and one who in fact died in the war. Stick to the two original films and just pretend this one was never made.

Good, but could be better.

It's okay. It IS a clever adaption to the Anne of Green Gables series, and I'm really glad that they have the original cast(Megan Follows, Jonathan Crombie, and Schuyler Grant stun us all with another excellent performance!!). But still, I would not consider this a family movie, considering they show a lot of scenes with battlefields and bloodied wounded soldiers. 2 operation scenes are shown. There are some alchohaul presented in the film, yet in a tactful way. And, considering that Anne is married to Gilbert, I think she spends too much time around Jack Garrison, even though he's helping her find her husband. This movie contains a lot of plot holes. There was a lot of confusing scenes in this movie, and the writers never "explained" a lot of the confusing parts. This is a pretty good and entertaining movie. This movie is generally clean and pure and innocent, just like the other videos in the series. I just don't recommend this movie for children 12 and under. 13 and up may be fine with this film. Pretty good movie though. Two thumbs up!
