Overview

On the heels of his success with the Pythons but several years prior to his groundbreaking documentary miniseries From Pole to Pole (1992), British comic and itinerant wanderer Michael Palin set out to recreate a challenge straight out of Jules Verne: circumnavigating the globe in eighty days, using only primitive means of transport. The BBC filmed his exploits, which include travels by refuse barge in Venice, a dilapidated taxi in Egypt, a steam engine in China, and much, much more - all leavened out with Palin's inherent sense of adventure and trademark wit. The epic-length program appears in its entirety in this box set, as it originally aired in 1999.

    World Travel, the Easy Way

Michael Palin's "Around the World in 80 Days" is a pleasant and interesting trip for us armchair travelers who have "been there, done that" in our dreams. It is delightful, easy to understand, and a magnet drawing us back for more. When the trip is over and Michael sits in the BBC office, discussing his adventures, we felt as if we had made the trip with him.
