Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
All good things, as they say, must come to an end, and unfortunately fans had to say goodbye to the wonderful Arrested Development with Season 3. Though the show was adored by critics, too few viewers were ready to embrace a comedy lacking both a laugh track and typical sitcom plots. And despite initial thoughts of bringing the series to one of the cable networks, creator Mitch Hurwitz decided to simply end it all. It's a pity, because Arrested was easily one of the most irreverent -- and hysterically funny -- comedies on television. During this final season, Michael Bluth Jason Bateman continues to battle his own family in order to save the Bluth business. George Bluth Sr. Jeffrey Tambor is out of prison, but only because he set up his twin brother, Oscar, also Tambor to stay inside instead. Matriarch Lucille Jessica Walter, still perpetually drunk and caustic, rules her children with an iron fist, especially Buster Tony Hale, who's out of the army and living life one-handed after the unfortunate seal attack of the previous season. Brother Gob Will Arnett is consistent with his spectacular failures at just about everything he attempts in life, from running a new Bluth frozen banana stand 20 feet away from the original to performing his Christian magic act -- in the middle of downtown Baghdad. Michael's sister, Lindsay Portia de Rossi, continues her on-again, off-again relationship with husband Tobias David Cross, whose homoerotic verbal slips are a constant source of entertainment, especially his insistence that his psychology talents are a combination of the words "analyst" and "therapist." And Michael's son, George Michael Michael Cera, is still flustered over his desire for cousin Maeby Alia Shawkat. By season's end, there's a lovely resolution to the entire Bluth business-in-crisis story line that includes the CIA, secret Iraqi tract homes, the British, and a certain member of the Bluth clan that pulled it all together. We're sad to see it go, but Arrested Development certainly went out at the top of its game; and this generously packed DVD three commentaries, plus deleted scenes, etc. helps ease the pain.

Must all good things come to an end?

I absolutely love this series, I wish it didn't have to end. However, low veiwership pulled this show before its time. This final season of Arrested Developement carries on the antics of the Bluth family. The season aburptly wraps up on going themes, such a shame they had to cut the season short and couldn't really draw it through a full season. (Ironic that the season was cut short and the name of the show is Arrested Developement). One positive is that its real easy to collect the whole series, only 3 box sets, definitely a must have and a great gift for those that truly have a analytical & business mind, or anyone who just wants a laugh.

THE BEST TELEVISION SHOW EVER MADE

I mean it. Even among the all-time greats, Arrested Development is the champ. It died a premature death, but at least it got two-and-a-half seasons after facing potential cancellation in its very first year. Start from the beginning, and watch it in order - you won't regret it. With any luck, the much-rumored feature film will eventually happen. This can't be the end of The Bluths!

TRULY ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER!

Arrested Development was a breath of fresh air to a world riddled with reality TV. And for 3 seasons the show gained loyal fans (I'm one of them!). Sadly it didn't have the kind of numbers that Fox wanted, and the network pulled the plug. Season after season the network cut down their number of epidsodes and moved their time slot around...in essence they set the show up to fail. I MEAN...HOW COULD A SHOW WITH EMMY NOMINATIONS EVERY YEAR NOT HAVE A STRONGER FAN FOLLOWING! I blame the show's demise totaly on the network. The cast was impeccable! When I learned the show had been cancled I cried a little (a tear). Though this season was only 13 episodes they are quite possibly the best. The show really did go out with a bang and as a fan i couldn't have asked for more. I hope more people discover how great this show was/is.

    CAN'T WAIT!

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT was a relatively short-lived series on the notoriously hard to please FOX network that lasted from 2003-2006 (3 seasons!)... It told the story of the Bluth Family, a zany group of neurotic and quirky rich people from Orange County, California ("the O.C."--"don't call it that")... Michael (Jason Bateman) was the glue that held them together while patriarch George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) was in prison for suspicion of shady land dealings in Iraq. The show was brilliant with its great inside jokes, ensemble casting and multi-faceted storytelling techniques (shot in a mockumentary style narrated by Ron Howard!). The third season sees Michael returning once again to his family as George Sr. is free in Mexico, hiding from the law while his twin brother Oscar takes his place (unwillingly!). The season's got 13 wonderful episodes (cut down again after the first seasons's full 22 episode order and the eventual 18 that were shown in season 2--the show made great and repetitive use of this as another one of its inside jokes!)... 1. "THE CABIN SHOW" (9/19/05) Michael is back in charge of The Bluth Company and things appear to be on track. However, when Michael decides to take his son on a trip to the family cabin, his plan goes off course when he decides to track down George, Sr. and ends up in Reno. Meanwhile, Lindsay (Portia De Rossi)—along with George Michael (Michael Cera) and Maeby (Alia Shawcat), who are still dealing with the aftermath of their awkward kiss—goes searching for Tobias (David Cross) and discovers he’s not blue without her. G.O.B. (Will Arnett) goes to an event hosted by a group that reunites abandoned sons with their fathers and gets a surprise of his own, while Lucille (Jessica Walter) is up to her old tricks dealing with Buster (Tony Hale). 2. "FOR BRITISH EYES ONLY" To save money on expensive attorney fees, Michael tells George, Sr. to plead guilty, but George, Sr. proclaims his innocence and says he was set up by an underground British group. Michael goes to “Wee Britain” to investigate these claims, and meets a beautiful British woman, Rita (recurring guest star Charlize Theron), whom he asks out on a date. Meanwhile, Lindsay tries to flirt with the family’s new attorney (Scott Baio) and ends up being charged for her time, and G.O.B. stages an elaborate magic trick to get out of spending time with his son (Justin Grant Wade). 3. "FORGET-ME-NOW" Michael inadvertently lies and tells Rita that he doesn’t have a family. But the lie catches up with him, when the Bluths try to surprise Michael by bringing Rita to a family party and all hell breaks loose. Meanwhile, Lindsay works as the nanny to the family’s new attorney and George, Sr. tries to escape the penthouse. 4. "NOTAPUSY" In an effort to prove to Rita he’s not a wimp, Michael tries to convince George Michael to join him in some manly activities, but George Michael is too busy prepping girlfriend Ann 2.0 (Mae Whitman) for an Inner-beauty Pageant. So Michael and his recently discovered nephew Steve Holt enter a triathlon, only to discover G.O.B. is the one who stumbles at the finish line. 5. "MR. F" At work, Michael must deal with a huge mole problem in order to salvage a major real estate deal. But when G.O.B. and Buster team up with George, Sr.’s surrogate, Larry (Bob "Super Dave Osborne" Einstein), to help Michael save the deal, their plan falls apart in a big way. Meanwhile, Tobias mistakes a CIA agent (John Veiner) for a CAA agent and inadvertently betrays the family, and Michael makes Rita a proposal she can’t refuse. 6. "THE OCEAN WALKER" After Michael announces he’s marrying Rita, George, Sr. worries that she’s after their family’s money. But when Rita’s Uncle Trevor (Dave Thomas) tries to stop the wedding by revealing some surpris
