Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Gregory Baird
Nostalgia runs deep in As Time Goes By: You Must Remember This, an episode of highlights from the long-running British comedy. The series followed the courtship and marriage of Jean Judi Dench and Lionel Geoffrey Palmer, young lovers separated by the Korean War who get a second chance at happiness together when they meet again 40 years later. In this hour-long special shot during the series' final season in 2002, Jean tries to persuade Lionel to write another memoir, leading to reminiscences that combine with clips from previous episodes three of which are included on the DVD. It's an odd layering of memory upon memory that blends easily into the series' tranquil tone of middle-age realities that have cooled the hot passion of young love while leaving a deeper affection. And as with the series as a whole, this special episode succeeds through its winning dry humor and ever-so-polite banter. For fans, this works as the ideal farewell to a romance that became, by the end of its nine-year run, as difficult to part with as a pair of old but oh-so-comfortable shoes.

My husband & I love this series. We enjoy the Britcoms more than American television. The series is smartly written, the cast is superb, and they play well off of one another.
I too, would highly recommend this series.

Wonderful Series, warm but not maudlin and very funny

My husband and I LOVED this series. Judi Dench is always marvelous, but she and Geoffrey Palmer are together a sweet, funny, fun couple. I highly recommend this entire series to anyone who loves British comedy. I also recommend it to those who have never loved British comedy. This is a couple in love, who have not seen each other for many years. When they come together after other marriages, the warmth and fun are fantastic. Love Love Love the series. I think you will, too.
