As Young As You Feel

Overview

Harmon Jones' As Young As You Feel (1952) -- starring Monty Woolley, David Wayne, Jean Peters, Thelma Ritter, Albert Dekker, and Marilyn Monroe -- is a pleasant comedy with stretches of delightful zaniness about a 65-year-old man (Woolley) and his reaction to his forced retirement. Thelma Ritter's contribution is somewhat more significant than Marilyn Monroe's, though each one tends to steal the scenes in which she appears. The movie looks good, having been transferred very cleanly in full-frame (1.33:1) aspect ...

Thelma Ritter's contribution is somewhat more significant than Marilyn Monroe's, though each one tends to steal the scenes in which she appears. The movie looks good, having been transferred very cleanly in full-frame (1.33:1) aspect ratio, and sounds good, with a decent audio level. It has been given a very generous 20 chapters, which is just adequate to cover the myriad plot developments in the first 50 minutes. The original trailer, which doesn't tell us a lot about the plot, has been included as well, and it looks a bit worn compared to the movie itself. There are no other special features, apart from a list of Monroe titles available on DVD and the promotional reel for the restoration and DVD reissue of the first films in the Monroe collection. The disc opens automatically to a simple two-layer menu that provides easy access to the film and support materials, minimal as they are.
