Set against this stark backdrop, a railroad heiress named Dagny Taggart tries to bring her failing company back from the brink with the development of a new alloy to repair breaks in the lines, and hopefully calm the business' vital corporate partnership with an oil company. But with the endless bureaucracy of an evil and corrupt government fighting her at every turn, and her own inept brother battling her for control, Dagny soon finds that in order to set things right in her world, things must be set right in the world at large.

    It's a Travesty

There is no way to translate Ayn Rand's writing to the screen. As with The Fountainhead, this is a superficial, one-dimensional attempt which does not even begin to represent even the basics of Ms. Rand's philosophy of life. The characters, and the actors who play them, do not bring forth the travails of the times and the moral and political crises facing the world as a whole as well as individuals. Read the book - it's worth it.

No, this is not a substitute for the book. But if you've heard about the book for years, wondered about it, but have not picked it up because of its intimidating length, SEE THE MOVIES first. I believe the movies will convince you, if you are concerned about the loss of freedom America and the rest of the world are experiencing, to read the book.
