Babe, producer George Miller's technically ambitious variation on a familiar childhood story theme -- the earnest outsider, desperate to fit in -- became a sleeper hit upon its arrival in 1995, even earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Miller took over the director's reins from Chris Noonan for the 1998 sequel, Babe: Pig in the City, a film some found darker than the original, but one that also celebrates the power of positive thinking and pure, porcine gumption.
