This is a great show. It's the only thing my ex-wife and I had in common. When B5 was on, there was peace in the house. I love B5. Ah, back in the day... Get this series. Watch it. It's sublime.

Babylon 5 Season 2 is like a cocked gun. Its chock full of tension and potential damnation for the protagonists. The darkness of the Shadows is looming large. Change is in the air as the space station's staff gains a new leader. The space station fails its mandate of keeping the peace. War rages between the Narn and Centauri. Babylon 5 Season 2 is all about chain reaction and dangerous 'powder keg' politics. Oh and do NOT go to Zhadum...

I started watching the original B5 episodes during the original 2nd season airing.. and since then have taped (on VCR) every single episode of B5 and have kept them. B5 is one of the most sophisticated, well thought-out SciFi series I've known. It takes a little getting used to as the characters are more ''raw'' than those from the refined ideal Star Trek world, but that adds to the ''grounded-ness'' of the storyline. Also, each episode by itself is complete in itself, but unlike Star Trek, each episode builds on the previous episode and is chronological, so the full impact of the series can only be appreciated if you see the whole thing. Imagine it being a 5-year mini-series with 22 episodes/year. Thus buying the whole season makes sense (as opposed to Star Trek episode you just want a select few of the whole season. you can still do that with this, but you miss out a lot if you do) Now with the DVD's I can get rid of my VHS tape clutter (DVD's are more compact!), get better screen resolution (shown in wide-screen letterbox format and DD surround) than you could ever reproduce from a taped show while it was on air. Highly recommended for those who taped the entire series. No commercials, you get the full ending credit (many of the TV airings either squashed or muted the end credits), DVD-quality sound and video, instant episode jumping, etc... in addition to some snippets from the actors.

This is the greatest series-season release ever. The quality is improved from the first season, both in cinematography and writing. A great series for sci-fi lovers and for the new-comers. Great for all.

Season Two began slow with the introduction of Bruce Boxleitner as John Sheridan,replacing Michael O'Hare's Jeffrey Sinclair,as commander of Babylon 5.It started to roll the ball as far as the story of the upcoming Shadow war goes.Delenn has transformed herself into a Minbari-Human hybrid,G'Kar becoming less of the warrior we saw in the first season,and Londo becoming more tangled with Shadows are all part of it.And the seemingly small episodes,to me,seem part of the bigger picture of where everything was going...from the Ministry of Peace to the Fall of Night.You got to hand it to J.M.S.That took some vision.Wonder when Season Three will be out?

To those who study TV shows, B5 was a gem: a five year serial novel for television, a carefully crafted, wonderfully written masterwork that lifted a rude middle finger to the entrenched white-bread SF establishment. Aliens that were really alien, real-world physics, and characters with problems and foibles, just like (ahem) real people, who changed and grew over time. Sure, there were a few inconsistencies, but the worst B5 was head-and-shoulders above any other show on TV, before or since, SF or, well, lesser. Executive Producer (and, often, head writer) J. Michael Straczynski masterfully wove a B-plot, a C-plot, and sometimes even a D-plot into the A-plot of a five-year story arc. Often, characters would disappear for a few shows, or even a season or two, and reappear changed, their thread woven back into the whole in unexpected ways, but always with a wonderful result. If you like TV for TV's sake, if you're a fan of SF, or even if you like westerns set in space (or soap operas), you owe it to yourself to get this set and watch it. But keep your eyes open -- Shadows move when you're not looking....
