Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
After the heartbreaking events at the close of Series 3, creator Kieran Prendiville injects new life into his series Ballykissangel with fresh story lines and several new characters. Father Aidan O'Connell Don Wycherley and his sister Orla Victoria Smurfit come to BallyK to pick up St. Joseph’s ministry, in the wake of Father Peter Clifford’s Stephen Tompkinson departure. Former town bad boy Sean Lorcan Cranitch returns to help renovate the family home, but first he must try to get the townspeople to like him again -- with a little help from his daughter Emma Kate McEnery. But the most notable new character added to this BBC series is a young Colin Farrell credited here as Col Farrell, who begins his two-series hitch as Danny Byrne. He first appears in the episode "Turf," as the cash-strapped owner of a racehorse. He eventually winds up selling the horse to Sean, who in turn gives it to Emma for her birthday, which of course brings Danny and Emma closer together in the episode "As Stars Look Down." Other happenings in the town of BallyK over the course of 1998's Series 4 include Fitzgerald's Pub going up for auction, with Quigley Tony Doyle purchasing it so that daughter Niamh can run it; Siobhan Deirdre Donnelly and Brendan Gary Whelan welcoming a new baby daughter, Aisling; and Ambrose Peter Hanly admitting to Father O'Connell that he and Niamh are having problems with their marriage. Ambrose's fears seem to come to a head in the last episode, "The Final Frontier," when he sees Niamh and Sean dancing together at a party.
